Default Doeas size matter

What size spinner bait seems to have the most success?

The answer is "depends". Sometimes you need to use a 1/4 oz., sometimes bigger baits will work. I throw a 3/8 oz. more than anything. The only way to figure out which size they want is to get out and start throwing. I wish there was an easier answer, but there just isn't.

I'm no spinnerbait guru, but I tend to catch more when I use a smaller bait (1/4).I know there are applications for all sizes, but I like to start small 'til I'm proved wrong.

Depends on the color of water your fishing as well.... Say your fishing dark stained water I would go with bigger blades more bling bling for the fish to see will result in more strikes. in clear water you presentation will not have to be soo big. I would go smaller blades and bigger skirt with a trailor bait (worm).

good luck.

Then to complicate matters even further, there are manufacturers (such as SOBlures.com) that make heavier spinnerbaits, such as 1/2 or 3/4, that have the profile of a 1/4.

Size, speed and amount of thump has to be taken in consideration
The average joe is out there throwing the 3/8 size
and many like the quarter ounce too.
If you want something to go slow, try a one ounce with a single cupped col. blade

When choosing the size of a spinnerbait two important factors should be taken into consideration: depth and retrieve speed. The lighter the spinnerbait the less it will get snagged too. A half ounce spinnerbait will cover most water down to about 10 ft efficiently.
Consider these basic guidelines.
Shallow water/slow retrieve: 1/4 or 3/8.
Shallow water/fast retrieve: usually 1/2.
Deep water/slow retrieve: 1/2 or 3/4.
Deep water/fast retrieve 1 ounce.
The best all around would have to be a 3/8 or 1/2. Hope this helps.

figured that would be coming up sooner or later.
i like the 3/8 oz i am not a fan of the 1/4 spinner baits but i own a slew of them. rather go with 3/8 or 1/2 the small ones tend to roll over more with any speed other than a crawl.
