Default Crabs and red drum???

Capt Mike doesn't have to go too far to find these saltwater species. Got word last week that the reds have come up the Potomac and are being caught in Mattawomen Creek and farther north. The Major caught this blue crab in Occoquan Bay. No wonder bass fishing has been a challenge lately....http://www.wtop.com/41/3032911/Unusu...-Wilson-Bridge

But some bass are still catchable

i saw the blue crabs in Mattawoman as far back as Slavin's launch, when I was down two weeks ago. Did not see any redfish. Crab pots are all around the mouth of Mattawoman, Chixamuxen and points south.

So according to some research with YOY 2011 for red drum, it being 4 times the normal amount we have a good chance for them to be around 4 years from now in keepable size and good numbers. They grow 1 inch to 2 inches a year so if next year we get a the same salinity increase as this year we will be getting a few over 18 inches. At that point they will play heII with the tourneys on the Potomac.. At weight in we will see 3 LGMouth 2 Potomac Pike and 3 Spotted Croaker.. and a bunch of frustrated bass fisherman..

Your results on the Stank or have you been holding out on us???? Fess up if you've been catching them on Mattawoman and haven't spread the word.....

If what you say is true then fishing for reds should be sweet down river in Potomac creek and Aquia creek for the next couple years. I'll have to get a
crabbing net and remember not to lip any chopper blues as well.

Wasn't it only a couple years ago that a pro, fishing a tournament (or practice, I forget which it was) had a bull shark circle his boat while he was fishing around the mouth of Potomac Cr? May have be longer than that, but I know it wasn't too many years ago. Big shark it was too, if I remember correctly.

I think I'll be back down there next weekend (Fri - Sun), but will be in the kayak, yep the boat is in the shop for hull repairs. Be in the no-wake area of Mattawoman, if you see me please don't run me over. Thank you!
