What type line?

What type line do you recommend for spinnerbait fishing? How about crank baits? And while were at it what about top water plugs? More than likely will be using baitcasting gear.

There's as many different opinions about lines as there are people on this forum. I like 17# monofilament, but everybody's a little different.

I always try to welcome all of our newcomers to the boards.
I'm looking to make a monofilament upgrade soon, I'm gonna try Andes, I've read alot of positive reviews, I'll let ya know what I think.

Welcome to the forum!

After trying MANY different lines I use P-Line Floroclear for most applications. It is fluorocarbon covered mono, which makes it tough but it handles like a dream. I throw both spinnerbaits and crankbaits on it and have no complaints at all.

I use either 12 pound copolymer lines or mono for most of my crankbiats. But I will go with 17 pound coploymer for my spinnerbaits. Now, last fall I started tossing a spinnerbait with a rod I had rigged with 30 pound power pro braid just for kicks and really liked how that worked out.

On spinners I use any decent mono or fluoro line over 15 lb.

Welcome. Trilene big game (green) in 15# or 17# will work fine for spinnerbaits. For cranks try 12#.

Spinnerbaits:

For spinnerbaits, I like 17lb-25lb mono, depending on how heavy the cover is. I'll some times use 30lb briad, but I like mono better, it gives me a chance to get a better hook set. Because it has lots of streach, when a bass takes it and get a better hold of it by the time the jerk of the hook set, hooks the bass.

Crankbaits:

For DD cranks, I like at least 12lb flouro. The reason for fluoro rather than mono is because it sink, and mono floats, with will help the bait get down deeper. If I'm using a MD crank, than 12-15lb fluoro is fine. For SD cranks, I like 15lb mono, you don't want the crank to get deep down, so the floating mono's fine, and the thick 15lb, once again because you want the crank to run shallow not deep.

Top water hard baits (buzzers, spooks, poppers, jitterbugs):

12lb is fine, for open water! But you can get away with 20-25lb, but you will also sacrifce casting distance with heavier line, because of the thicker diameter. I like 15lb for mono, or 30lb for briad. the only time I would use mono heavier the 15lb is for buzz baits, for that I would go with 17.

Top water soft baits (hollow frogs, soft frogs, snakes)

For top water soft baits, you're most of time using them in thick cover, for them I like 40-65lb briad, you need heavy line to get bass out of thick stuff, and to cut through lillies and reeds.

Good braids would be sufix, berkly big game, and p-line.

Spinnerbaits - I've used mono, fluoro, copoly, and braid and they all fish spinnerbaits fine. 10-12lb test or 30lb braid.

Crankbaits - I use 10lb for just about everything. If I want the cranks to dive deeper, I'll use fluoro. Other than that, mono.

Topwater - For hardbaits, 14lb mono. For buzzbaits, I use the same on a baitcaster and 8lb for small buzzbaits on a spinning rod. For frogs, 30lb braid.

For overall fishing, 10 lb. would work. I just also told what would be the BEST for all three individually. 10 lb. will work for all. But my second answer was to tell you what would be the EXACT best for the three individually.

Hello all, new here.

I was wondering, I just bought a 500yd spool of 50lb power pro Braid and was planning to put it on all four of my baitcast reels. I've recently read the line guide on this site and have started second guessing my plan to spool all my reels with said line. Now, my question to you knowledgeable dudes is, could I get away with all types of fishing with braided line, or is it really going to effect say top water plugs etc. ??

ps. I'm from Canada eh! and I fish a lake with Heavy vegetation. not sure if this matters but I thought I'd throw it out there.
