line or bait
when you are fishing, do you look at your line or at your bait when you are working it back to the boat? ???

Re: line or bait
I would say that is more of a feel thing for me. Alot of times you cant see your "bait" in the water. You should be able to tell by feel if you have a fish on.

Re: line or bait
the only time i watch my line is when im jigging, or deadsticking, and the only time i watch my bait is when i can see it. usually i just look around at where i am or at other places i might head to. like nj said, its more of a feel thing for me.

Re: line or bait
It depends on how many fish you want to miss. I don't care to miss any but it still happens. If you watch your line you can eliminate some missed fish. The days I have had here lately, you will miss alot if your not paying attention,. There was a sudden line twitch and no tap was felt.I was using powerpro braid because I couldn't feel them hit on mono the day before.I still couldn't feel them pick the bait up until the small Buck bass hit the bait. Re: line or bait
If im fishing a pond, when i cast it out and cant see the bait then i watch the tip of the poll and the line. But when it gets close enough, then i watch the bait.

Re: line or bait
When I'm fishing soft plastics, close to 100% of my strikes are detected by seeing the line move before I feel anything. So if I wasn't a line-watcher, I wouldn't catch very much on my plastics.

Re: line or bait
well,
in a river situation, i use hi vis line, just because it is hard to feel anything, in ponds and streams, it is alll about the feel or if i can see the bait, then i definitley have an advantage over the bass. |

Re: line or bait
depends on water clarity and lure choice. with a crank bait i am actually looking for a casting target. i do it more by feel. with a plastic bait i am looking more at the line. with a spinner bait i am looking at the lure it self. top water -here is a tough one to learn- by watching the line..

Re: line or bait
Whatever works If you use Superline, the bites will be easier to detect. I do all of the above and then some. Best thing I can tell ya is get some time on the water, and find what works for you. But anytime I have weight on the line, I don't need to watch it, because I feel it. If it's a jerk bait or weightless plastic, then watch your line very carefully. Oh yeah I always watch the line on the fall of the bait(weighted or not). If it twitches or stops before it should SET THE HOOK.

Re: line or bait
I watch the line all the time
....the count down to figure the depth, or....watching how much slack is in it ....and best ...waiting for a twitch |

Re: line or bait
Matters what I'm using. If I'm deadsticking a senko or throwing a soft jerkbait, I'll watch the line. Besides that, its all a matter of feel. I look and listen for anything else on the water while I am working the bait. I haven't fished in any water really clear enough to sight fish and so I don't really need to try and watch the lure much.

Re: line or bait
I'm a line watcher because sometimes you don't feel the strike, you only see the subtle line tick.
