Advice for cold start tomorrow in Tournament
Here is the scoop. Has been raining off and on all week till today With temps mostly in the 50's. Today is 60's with a 20-30 mph gust. Tomorrow morning shows high 30's for the launch (7 am), mostly sunny, warming to lower 60's by afternoon. Wind will still be somewhat a factor but not as bad. Prob. gust of 15 mph. Water will be stained from the rain, and probably in the upper 50's to lower 60's. Any advice as to what to start off with? Crank baits off points in 10-15 ft? Go ahead and move to the structure and pitch a jig? What? Colors? Any help will be appreciated! Tight Lines

Re: Advice for cold start tomorrow in Tournament
Was out the last two days in exactly the same conditions and murdered them with jerkbaits (Frenzy and Renegade(WalMart)). I fished the wind protected points and north shore, cast from shallow to deep water and found fish in 6'. Two three pounders and 6 others - 1.5-2lbs - and a 23" pickerel - all on jerks.
Spinnerbaits are also a good option. If the weeds haven't grown yet, forget the shallows, except on cloudy days. Still, work flats nearer the deeper water with lipless cranks and jerks. |

Hey NCBUXNDUX,
That sound the exact same conditions as to where I am going tomorrow. I will be at Buggs Island. Where are you going? |

Re: Advice for cold start tomorrow in Tournament
Thanks for the replies, we were able to boat a few nice fish, but did not have the "heavy bag" Wind blew like crazy all friggin day, and we did not boat any fish until after 1 PM, weigh in was at 3. We caught the fish finally off a extended point with soft jerk baits. Biggest going 4-9. Was a little worried that we would bring a "skunk" to the scales, but instead brought about 11lbs in. Thanks for the help. Tight lines.
