Schooling Baitfish
Hey guys, I always read about schooling bait fish and how bass feed on them. My question is, does this happen in every lake? the lake where i fish is always murky and i never see any "bait fish" or anything liek that. i see a lot of sunnies and stuff, but there all decent sized. When i think of bait fish i think little minnows or whatever. maybe i jsut cant see the bait fish. Thanks

Mr. twister,
Sometimes i just see alot of little swirls in the water or an occasional small fish jump out of water (shad or minnow) When they jump, more than likely they are jumping from something coming up behind them. When i do see bait fish, i try to throw on the outside of them. Look closely at the surface of the water and see if you can see movement on top of the water. Every once in a while i will see a V shaped movement of water. I always hope its a bass, but it could be anything. Sandra |

If you lake is lucky enough to have shad most bass follow the school and herd them in to position where the bass can take advantage.
I always look for bait forage when trying to decide where to stop and fish, if you see them jumping on the surface chances are something is lurking lol |

Re: Schooling Baitfish
i read somewhere schooling baitfish are smarter than the ones that hang out by themselves. :
baitfish don't school in every lake..some are in poor districts and cannot afford this luxury. :P i'll run a rattletrap through the school and kill it in the middle,or throw wacky rig senkos(baby bass color or white). |

Re: Schooling Baitfish
If theres no shad in the lake, what do bass feed on? Small sunnies? crays? lotsa rocks on some edges of the lakes, im sure thres cray fish there. Its a man made lake, mud botom, not much folliage or anythign liek that acutally in the lake, no lilly pads at all.
