Re: Urban lakes
how urban? If its more like suburban, it can vary greatly from excellent to extremely poor. Usually if you know the lake is being fished a lot it probably kinda sucks cause a lot of people could care less about it and keep a bunch of fish. But if it has few people fishing in it and is really far back in a neighborhood, it can be really good.

Re: Urban lakes
Urban lakes can be the best fishing experience ever or the worst depending upon many different variables. A lot of the urban, or suburban lakes are not stocked with proper forage fish, like shad, so the fishing is nothing to speak of. Some are stocked properly and can be outstanding fishing. I fish one here locally that is probably the best bass fishing in the state, and probably the best in several states. Fishing pressure can have an effect on it, not really related to what is kept and what is turned loose, but just how much pressure is put on the lake at any given time. Unless you just have a butt load of people fishing a lake and keeping everything they catch, then that is not going to make that much difference on a lake of reasonable size. Now, bass seeing everything under the sun from every bass fisherman with a rod can have a great impact. The bass become a little educated and it becomes more difficult to catch fish on a regular basis. Good fishing

Re: Urban lakes
I got interested fishing for bass with artificial bait three months ago as a diversion. I have a five acre lake in my backyard that has been described as the biggest subdivision in Alabama. The neighbor kids throw beatle-spins and catch crappie and small bass. I've caught a couple of six pounders on worms T-rigged and hooked a nine+ pounder on a small jitterbug that got off at the boat. Urban lakes can be quite productive.

Re: Urban lakes
We've got a small lake on the outside of town. Normally those who fish it are fishing for crappie.
The bass fishing can be great. I personally have caught enough 5 lb fish to fill up the bed of my pick-up. Unfortunately, theres some white trash that fish the banks alot and leave whatever they bring. A small boat is ideal for this body of water. |

Are ya sure zook? Some of the ones in fl are pretty nasty. Maybe not the big lakes, but the ponds here are awful.

Re: Urban lakes
Hey Zook, Bassman's lake is not High Rock. I fished it with him once there and caught a 5lber out of it. Only fish I caught though. I spent 3 yrs fishing a city lake in Guilford county that has a lot of fishing pressure and caught lots of 5 lb + bass. Even had a couple over 7lbs.

Re: Urban lakes
Hey Zook,
It's Old City Lake. Go down 29/70 till you see the first exit. Turn left and make a few other turns. It's on Old City Lake rd. |

Re: Urban lakes
Bassenforcer was very lucky that day. I put him on the fish and he caught "my" fish.
Next time he sits in the boat and watches me haul 'em in. Got that Bassenforcer. Bassnman30 |

Re: Urban lakes
No, not Thomalex. Its called "old city lake". It's alot smaller than Thomlex.
Few boats, mostly bank beaters. Bass fishing "can" be outstanding at the lake that I'm refering to. You catch fish normally no smaller than 2lbs. There all healthy from the shad that are in that lake. Note: You don't take a first left where the road enters the 29/70, that takes you to the county fair site. You go to the next left and then go appx 100 yds and then take a right. Follow that road for a couple miles and take a left on city lake road. Go down appx 1 mile and look on your right. Thats old city lake. |

Believe it or not, I've never fished Thomalex. I have heard though that some big fish have been caught there.

Re: Urban lakes
You think that they stock shad ?
Good golly man, they must have some hungry fish in there. Even the winter temps. don't kill all of the shad. As we all know. To stock shad though, thats something new to me. |

Re: Urban lakes
i have seen them dumping fish in t-lex that looked a lot like shad. i don't think they do it very regular though.
there was an artical in nc sportsman about 3 years ago about how many they "release" in to which lakes and how often. they released 25,000 in high rock couple of years ago-i really anit got to tell YOU why do i. allong with the hybrids. zooker
