That can be frustrating. I've had mixed results throwing a weightless lizard or a Rat-L-Trap and dragging it in front of them. Sometimes I get a reaction bite, but a lot of time I just haul water.

Cruising bass can be very skittish and difficult to catch. Many times if you see them they hear or see you too (especially in clear water). You can try casting well ahead of them with a small tube or superfluke. Sometimes upon hearing your bait hit the water they will swim over to investigate (I've caught some that way), but as I mentioned before other times they are just too spooked. As Rebbasser pointed out, you can sometimes provoke a reaction strike out of them with a faster or erratic moving bait. In the early spring, cruising bass are usually looking for slightly warmer water or a place to build a bed. Other times they can also be looking to eat bass fry or crayfish, so keep that in mind when you select a bait. Try to imitate those two types of forage. Hope this helped.

I catch all my bass in ponds on unwieghted trick worms. Cast well in front twitch it a few then let it sink in front of them. It works on getting bites but I dont see much clear watar where I fish.

i keep a scale in my tackle bag at all time, currently working on getting a digital camera to post some pics, because here in idaho we got some funny looking bucketmouths, plus the ponds i fish are all private catch and release ponds so the fish tend to get a whole lot bigger than public ponds
