Canyon Lake TX, 1/5/07
As many of you have deduced from reports posted by Reb or me, Canyon is NOT a "size" lake, but can be a "numbers" lake at times.
Yesterday was an oddity in that my partner for the day, A retired USAF Colonel, and I had an 80% keeper rate. In fact, though I only caught five bass all day, ALL were legal fish...THAT is a rarity of the highest order for Canyon Lake. My partner also caught five, and three of those were keepers. All fish were caught on plastic worms, in 15-40' water, and were scrappers. One of George's fish was a dink smallmouth that was pursued to the surface by a SERIOUS largemouth who wanted to eat him, but missed. I caught two on a Berkley NEONZ 4" worm ( I like them, so Berkley has discontinued them...&%$%#$~!) Two were caught on a ZOOM Smokin' Blue U-Tail, and one on a Green Pumpkin U-Tail. Geo.'s bass were all caught on a ZOOM Finesse worm in Pumpkin/Seed. I want to publicly thank Reb for bowing out on short notice so that I could fish with George. Y'see, George has recently undergone surgery for prostate cancer and needs a partner who is skilled at launch/recovery and just to "be there". Between the medical issues and his involvement with some singing groups his time is very limited, so it's difficult for him to plan trips on a long-range basis. Reb and I hope to annoy the bass at Canyon (or Bastrop, or Fayette) this coming Monday. Pray for decent weather! One of us will report. FR |

It's too late now cause I suppose you're on the water at this very minute, but for the future, if you didn't make it to Fayette today, be sure and fish the dead oaks next to the Prairie View Boat Launch. Plastics are my choice there. Good Luck.
