Sunglasses
I got some old sunglasses from my dad. He doesn't know if they have polarized lenses or not.
They are Oakleys in amber color. Since they're old, I figured they wouldn't be on Oakley's website. Here is the closest thing I can find on Oakley's website. Here is what I have (sorry bout quality) : How can I find out if they are polarized or not? |

you could try them out on the water, and be careful with Oakleys, great sunglasses worth alot of money... I have a pair like the ones from the website that are polarized and work great.

Take them with you next time you go out. Look at the water, then put them on/take them off. If they cut the glare and you can see beneath the surface they are probably polarized.

Thanks. I've heard of Oakleys being expensive. They are on the site. My dad probably got them for over $100

OR!!!!! You could just go into any Eyeglass place, and ask them where the little glass is that you check to make sure they are polarized. Every eyeglass store I've been to has them sitting out on the counters/displays. You look without the glasses at it, and then you put the glasses on, and you see more stuff with the polarized glasses.

Hold them up to back window of a car. Look through them and rotate 90 degrees. If the window goes opaque then they are polarized.

that being said, what type of polarized glasses do you own.
honestly, I brought a pair from S.Authority and they are amber. Perfect and haven't had a problem. I got a pair of Maui Jims cause we were depolying and they are comfortable, black with grey lens for high light situations but I haven had a chance to use them in a sight fishing setting. I think I should have went with some Coasta Del Mar, but we'll see when I get back. 1st we stopped in Montego Bay Jamaica and then Antigua, for the cricket tourneyment. Must say the Brits and Aussie are wild. So I have been wearing the Maui's but it's not the same. Good view though, crisp real crisp. |

Jools,
Another way to tell for certain if they are Polarized is to hold them up before your eyes into a clear blue sky, angled away from the sun. (Sun in the West? Point North or South.) Then slowly rotate them until the lens are one above the other, watching the sky (through the lenses). If the sky darkens/lightens then they ARE definitely P'rized. Also, you need a high or maximum UV rating on any glasses you wear when outdoors, especially on the water. The web site for that brand can probably tell you the rating. Lastly, expensive or not, you MUST wear a strap on the glasses to prevent them blowing off as you tool down the lake or save them from falling off your sweaty lil' nose and being scratched, broken, or lost into water. The earpieces on the glasses you show are the type most vulnerable to mishap. Heeeeeeeeeeed myyyyyyyy warrrrrrrrrnnnnniiiiiinnnnnngggggg! (Or else) We owe the late Doctor Land a great debt of gratitude for two things... Polarization of lenses AND Polaroid(TM) cameras. The glasses make our life as outdoorsmen, drivers, etc, easier and safer and the Polaroid(TM) cameras were quite handy when engaged in certain activities...like in a cheap motel room. Now we have digitals for our kinkier proclivities, of course. BTW, Jools, re your recent fishing report...congrats, Son, we're all proud of you. Kindly Uncle Fly |

Save up and get a pair of costa del mar sunglasses, I got three pairs amber, green mirror and blue mirror. I will never own another brand of sunglasses, they are the best IMO.
