I usually throw them early and late in and around cover.

I fished in my dad's pond the other evening and whacked them on a Horney Toad. The pond is getting a bunch of grass in it and it's making it hard to fish other lures but that Horney Toad is the trick around all that grass!

New type of frog
Bass Assassin came up with this new topwater/creature bait. I've been playing with it a little and it can be worked on the surface really slow. Much slower than a Horney toad.

Sometimes you gotta do.....
or Proof is in the pudding. Check the post I did on the Chick. river and the bass I posted was caught on the toad that was worked very slowly through the pads. The bass didn't want fast moving baits or a buzzbait. |

Sometimes ,They wont take'em fast, sometimes they do,somedays they need to be coaxed into striking,SLOW presentation.Whatever produces results.I agree with Mr.3D

When to fish a frog? I've fished them all day a lot of times. Especially around pads. The only time I had no luck with them is very early morning when the fog stays on the water. In that case I use a creature bait flipped around the pads.

Got this one on a sizmic toad out of an isolated pad clump around 3 pm on Tuesday. She wanted it fast and crushed it.

i went out tonight and used a black spro frog and i was getting lots of blow ups but only 2 hook ups..i lost the first fish which was small and landed the second one which was 14 inches..i love this type of fishing..heavy braid and heavy rod..
to answer the question, i use them anytime there is some/any type of algae on top of the water... |
