Last weekend I traveled up to Maryland to visit friends and family. I planned on getting some fishing in while I was up there. I got there Thursday night and didnt waste a moment. My buddy and I were so excited to go fishing that we decided that we would try bass fishing at night in a secluded pone he knew about. Neither of us had ever bass fished at night and didnt know what to expect, but we thought what the heck. We got out to the pond and it started to drizzle and thunder and lightning were approaching. Still, we had come to far to turn back. So we wet the lines. The rain and storm got worse, but we were determined. We started out in a spot that was overgrown with vegetation, so we moved to an area with more open water to work with. BAM! Bass started hitting left and right. We would cast in the same spot, one right after the other, and were wearing 'em out. My buddy ended up catching 18 while I pulled in 14 (in 2 hours). It was incredible. I never knew you could get such great results at night......in a thunderstorm. I was also using dark colored plastics which I thought was interesting. Anyone out there have an experience like this? Please post your stories and experiences with Night Bassin. I would like to learn more about it as the summer will get hot and I might start waiting till night to fish.

A black spinnerbait with a big colorado blade has worked great for me lately, and the bass aren't on beds yet. I lost my black/blue chatterbait right away, but I hear they're awesome at night. Quite a few of these guys like the jitterbug, but I haven't had any success with them. Conventional wisdom has it that black is the go-to color because it has a silhouette against the night sky.

Ive had my best luck, and biggest fish at night with a Jig and Pork.
My guess is that it looks similar to a crawfish (the lake I fish is loaded with them), and night time is when crawfish become active. Black on Blue jig with a black pork.

I guess leave it up to me to be the one to tell you to be careful fishing in thunderstorms, many, many anglers have been hit by lightning before. Just be careful.
But night fishing is going to be one of the main tickets for bass this summer and every summer. I love it personally. There is no better way to get some peace and quiet while on the lake, no jetskiers, no pleasureboats, only serious fishermen.

Not a good idea to go night feeshin in my neck of the woods, that rattlin´ sound you hear 3 ft from your toes ain´t exactly the bait you´ve got tied. Not to mention them deadly scorpions too.

WTL--I was a little worried about the storm coming through. You can bet that I was counting the seconds between the lightning strike and the thunder rolling. Luckily we remained on the outer edge of the storm. But you are certainly correct......not a good idea.
