Bass following each other

Could anyone tell me why after you hook a bass, another bass sometimes follows it for a little while? I have seen this happen when fishing by myself so there was no way that I could catch the other bass as well. On Sunday I was fishing with my dad when he hooked into a 20" bass. His line was out about thirty feet at the time when i remembered seeing that so, I made a cast right behind where his fish had just jumped and I hooked into a 15" bass. He thought I was trying to catch his fish if he lost it but, I was really trying to catch any trailing bass. Both fish were photographed and released.

I think they stick together when they are chasing bait fish, and many times when one bass sees another with a lure in its mouth it may follow or try to get the lure itself. For example a few of us have caught 2 fish at once on a rattletrap.

It is a school thing and they will steal each others capture. U Think they are bad you should see big bluefish in a blitz. They actually bite each other to get them to drop the meal.

It gets messy with all those 20 pound blues in a frenzy.. Surf turns red..

You can also figure out if another fish is around when ur worm fishing...if a fish hits hard and immediately runs away with the worm, then there's a good chance it's running from other fish tryin to steal it.

Yes Bass are extremely competitive. You can use this to your advantage sometimes. I take a small 4" worm and put it on a split ring then tie a 10-12" leader to that split ring and tie a crankbait on it. Makes it look like the Crank is chasing the other bait. I catch about half of the fish on the worm and the other half on the crankbait. Instead of the worm you can also use small minnows etc... (My favorite is the little 2" Storm Swim baits, Shad color)

Reminds me of a rig a guide showed me twelve years ago. A pig and jig with a snap swivel on it to used as the weight on a carolina rig. I caught fish on both at times. And one set of doubles.

when im fishing with other friends in the boat and one of use gets a really nice bass and its done trying to shake the hook whoever has it just lets it swim for a while while the other people cast out around it. works great.

I can understand "WHY" you do this. However the consequences to the fish could be disastrous. The longer the fight/being hooked, the more stress the fish has. Therefor it could lead to a much greater mortality rate. Getting them to the boat, taking quick pics and quickly returning them to the water is by far a much wiser way of keeping the fish alive.

ya i was just in loreto, mexico fishing and whenever
i hooked up a nice dorado "dolphin fish" there would be another few aroudn it and the boat driver would have us wait and throw more bait to em. Works well

other day had a 4lber swim out on a topwater then a 2 lb beat it to it and smashed it while the 4lber was trying to get it away.
