Default Gamma fishing line

I was at our new Cabelas store today and had a discussion with a sale rep in the fishing dept. We were talking about lines, Bagley Silver Thread to be exact. The guy I was talking to wasn't familiar with that particular line. He did tell me however that the Gamma company had a representitive in their store recently and he put on a demonstaration with their Gamma copolymer line. This guy was so impressed with what he saw that he is planning to spool all his reels with Gamma this year. So I was curious; are there any Gamma users in here and how do you compare the line with other brands? At this point in time I am still planning to spool up with Silverthread this year. But now this Gamma idea has strolled into my brain and I am interrested to hear more about it. Oh yeah, the bait monky got me today. Picked up a Rapala DT10 sureset hook series crank olive shiner, and also picked up one each, Bandit 100,200,300 in bluegill patern. Along with a very comfy pair of slipons keeping my feet nice and toasty tonight.

I have used the purple box of Gamma Co-Polymer. This upcoming year I want to try the Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon. Very expensive, $22.95 for couple hundred yards, but I'll try it; heard it's the best out there.

I tried some Gamma copolymer in 10# on a spinning reel. It gave me no problems, but I'm not observant enough to see what there was about it to warrant the premium price.

Lunk, With no further explaination ?

I was thinking you might have given some sort of details as to how it worked for you. If I were to draw a conclusion from your post. I would guess that it was one of those "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all " kind of thing going on there.

Then someone else would say, He was so happy with the line, words couldn't describe the way he felt.

Zooker adds Wrong, he uses the purple boxed line. Nuff said.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Keith. P N J

keith -- I have been using the Gamma Copoly 14# for over a year for cranks, spinner baits and topwater. I like the lack of memory. However, with any mono after it has been on the reel a while a little KVD Line & Lure does wonders. In the year I have been using it, I have had no problems/complaints. Just seems to cast better and hold up better than other mono's I have used.

As a side note, I have recently gone to Vicious Fluoro for deep cranks and will probably go to it for spinner baits. It is cheaper than BLS XPS Fluoro and cheaper than the Gamma Co-Poly. Been using it about a month with no problems or complaints.

Thinking about trying some Vicious Mono to replace the Gamma if it is much cheaper and is as usable as the Gamma.

You might want to try Bagleys Silver Thread too links. I've liked that line for many years. And it's a copolymer as well.

Sorry, PNJ, I didn't know the name, so I just used "purple box" to describe it. As to how well it worked, I would give it a "C". It caught fish, held up for over 4 months, but began to curl really hard at the end.

Anyone have any input on the Edge Fluorocarbon for $22.95?

Keith I tried Silver Thread a couple of years ago then went to the Gamma which I liked better. And being one of the older f_rts, figure if it isn't broken don't break it now, there is always tomorrow to really screw it up.
