this year i want to master jigs and i have a couple questions, mainly about the line, right now i have 17 pound suffix elite how do you guys think that will do? and do i have to think about the line the same way as i think for crankbaits? as a smaller diamiter falls faster? thanks for all the help. |

If you want to fish jigs, don't use monofilament. Mono floats; go with fluorocarbon, it sink. 12-15 lb. should do ya'. I'm going to try 15 lb. Seaguar Invis-X or Trilene Fluorocarbon. Fluoro will also give you good bottom-feel. -Lunk-

I use both braid and fluoro for jigs, but that suffix will work fine. For cranks keep in mind the higher the pound test the larger the diameter of the line. The larger the diameter the shallower the crank will run. I use 12 lb most of the time but will drop to 10 when I need some extra depth.

suffix is a good mono and will do well for a jig. although i do prefer flouro for jigs. if you decide to go with flouro then do yourself a favor and go with seaguar invizx. it will cost you a couple bucks more than other flouro's but money well spent.

Back then I used Berkley transition , when I had problems with the line breaking.I now switched from seaguar carbon pro to P-Line Halo, because I got a free spool from my friend, Chris.I like the halo line , see no reason to switch back to the seaguar to try the invisx line, although I still use seaguar fluorocarbon leader material for trolling for lake trout. Justin Case & P N J are one and the same. Ivan

with the experience ive had with jigs, i would not go any lighter than 17 lb test. i throw 20 most of the time, but if its deep and clear water then i go to 17. never have any problems from p-line except on the hookset every once and a while. i guess i get a little carried away when i set the hook sometimes.
