My father and I have been thinking about taking a vacation to Reelfoot during the third week of may. Has anyone fished this lake before? I'm hoping for a little advice from the tennessee guys as far as how good the fishing is etc.
Thanks

I don't know anything about Reelfoot, but if you are looking to do some good bass fishing on a good lake, try Dale Hollow Reservoir on the Tennessee/Kentucky border. It has Smallies (Ranked #1 in the world for them; world record Smallie came from here), and Largies, don't know about Spots though. I went there when I was ten and the fishing was phenomenal! Large lake with all the back bays, creeks, channels, piles, dams, etc. you could think of! It is a little crowded in the Summer, but there is so much water, the fishing opportunities are almost endless! I'd look inot it if I were you...

ive been to reelfoot lake, but i went crappie fishin' with my cousin and his dad. i seen some people that were catchin some bass and they said they were catching them on a shallow running crankbait with bleeder hooks. when i went it was in march or april so we were fishing dead lilly pad stalks and caught several crappie. there were a few small bass in the mix.

I've been to Reelfoot a few times with my dad. We did a little bass fishin. Don't try to get a fiberglassboat on the lake though. The lake was formed by an earthquake and there are stumps all over it. I've seen people think they could navigate through them but next thing they knew they were either flipped, prop tore up, or standing verticall on underwater trees. Your best bet for fishing would be jigging the trees excessivly. As well as the lily pads when they are dead. when the're in bloom they are almost impossible to navigate through.
Hopes this help you, and have fun, Reelfoot is an amazingly historical lake. The history of it is extremely intriguing. The lake was formed by an earthquake on the New Madrid fault line. The Mississippi ran backwards for 3 days creating the lake. The lake's deepest point is only about 20 foot deep and evrywhere else is barley over 15 foot deep.
