I would like to congradulate Eliot Spitzer.
Congrats! You may be the biggest dumbass in the entire country! Most people are never #1 at something, but boy have you suceeded this time!!!
How on earth does an acting governor get caught in a prostitution ring? Don't they get interns for free? I mean yes, they arent all that attractive, but neither are*****s most of the time. This is just a spellbinding act of extreme stupidity. And then to get the wife to stand behind him during his little public blurb in which he did not resign? We got to watch her give the dumbass the evil eye for an entire minute. Is that what you call damage control? For once, I just wish a politician would acknoledge how stupid they are. Not a canned apology. Not for asking for time with the family as if something this dumb could be made up for. How about this for a statement. "I must be the biggest dumbass on the face of the earth. I stand before you one of those cautionary tales, completly without hope of having any political future. Have mercy on such an idiot. I resign from public life. I think I'm going to go bag groceries instead of calling Jesse Jackson for some hollow prayers session photo-ops. Hopefully somebody else will come along and do something even dumber in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath either. Leno, Letterman, please, be gentle"

You should write speeches, WTL! At least consider being a publicist! Pretty much nailed it, my friend.

Power corrupts. We have many, many examples throughout history. He thought he was too good to get caught, like many politicians. Unfortunately for him the press is much more investigative than it was when Teddy got away with at least manslaughter if not murder.

Everyone has skeletons but he is just plain greedy and stupid. The money needed to get into those positions has to come from somewhere and then they owe their souls. I agree 100% with Reb, power corrupts. From your little town to the president. The good ones are forced out or just give up.

He was tracked by his bank. Banks are required by law to report very large transactions to the goverment. Well they tracked his transactions guess who got caught with pants down as they investigated even further into the matter.

Lemme ask ya'll this-- How many of ya'll's wives/girlfriends would stand behind you at a podium with a painful, squinty-eyed grin while ya had to apologize for your "mistake"? I don't know why these political wives put up with that garbage, myself. Ah, what do I know...

PNJ, most of them are not standing behind their man, but their life style. They don't like working for a living.

I think you just nailed it... Gold brickers and trophies? Here's another question that might be borderline acceptable in polite company-- What's the real difference between the call girl "The Gov" was "calling" and a "wife" hanging around his neck for the lifestyle? I guess one's an escort and the other's an ascot? Although I thank God everyday that I wasn't born a woman (No offense meant, Ladies, I swear! You all do a whole lot better job at it than any guy out there!), But if I was, I'd be right angry that these guys are getting away with this shizzle with their women by their sides. Ah, what do I know...

Most of these women don't love these men. They love the lifestyle. If that's the case she is no better than the HO's.

Although he is a public official, I don't see why this is such a big stink. Millions of American's use prostitution in some way/shape/form daily, and just because he is 'well-known' makes it wrong?
I think not. You, I, everyone around the world knows it's wrong, but just because he's a public official doesn't make him the 'monster' the media portrays him as... -Lunk-

LL, it's not that he is just a public official, it's what he stands for. As you know I'm not from NY, but just take a look in your back yard at the mayor of Detroit. When you make a stand on "strong family values" and get caught with a prostitute... that doesn't look good in the public eye.

He just cheated on his wife with a hooker. He is a monster. For sure, he's not a monster because of his occupation. That is irrelevent to the nature and severity of the crime. No, he is a monster because, again, he cheated on his wife with a hooker. He has children. He has a wife. If you have a wife and children, don't cheat on them or else you are a monster. The end.

In todays world if you were stranded in a plane crash with a few pets onboard and you ate a few dogs to stay alive, you would be thought of as a cruel bastard. If you were in a plane crash with other passengers and you ate another person to stay alive most people would not think you were a cruel bastard.

What kills me about this duffis is that he took the high and mighty road, acting like the moral leadership for the state of NY, by going after and shutting down two prostituion rings while he was the Attourny General. It's one thing for a common Joe to get caught with a prostitute. It's a totally different matter when it is someone who promised to uphold the law and the standards of the community when he ran for office. He took and oath which sets him appart from others. He represented the good citizens of New York and they gave him their trust. As far as I am concerned, he should be forced to return at least a portion of the income he received as governor.
