Anybody ever still use Creek Chub Pikies?

With the swimbait craze going on, I was wondering if anyone still uses older broken back minnows like the creek chub pikies. Or any other very old lures that are no longer really taken seriously.

We've got a creek chub or two, but we use them from Musky. They've got a nice action when trolling, and we've not casted them.

I used to use them for Pike up in Minnesota when I was a kid but never used them for bass. Betcha they would work though.

wtl, i am gonna buy me some of those rapala, broke backs. they are very good in shallow waters.

You still can get them from bass pro. Bps has a nothern Species Catalog. There not cheap but there still around. I was thinking of buying one since i got caught up in the whole swim bait thing. That bait also hold not only the biggest bass ever caught in history. But also the biggest muskie ever caught. The Fish record is 79lbs. There is majic in that there bait. Why people are'nt throwing it makes know since.

The reason I asked the question was I bought a couple on ebay, more as an investment, and when one came in I thought it looked pretty damn fishy.

Today me and a buddy went to the dam again for the first time since we almost got killed. We slayed the hybrids on AC Shiners, Rogues, Bagley cranks - and then I pulled out the Creek Chub Pikie.

Caught 4 fish on it. A 3 pound hybrid. A 2 pound Spotted Bass. A 5 pound Catfish and a 10 pound or so Alligator Gar. I got a pic of the Gar I will post as soon as the camera batteries charge, but all in all this thing kept up with the Rogues and AC Shiners in numbers and beat them in size and diversity - so yes, I answered my own question - its still a very viable lure.

I didn't try to harm it, but the drag and the fight might have done the trick - it floated away in the current. It was the big time fight on a day of big fights.

WTL, Your reference to the diversity of fish produced makes me wonder if the ACLU wouldn't make a fine sponsor for the Creek Chub lure (insert laugh at my own cleverness). Seriously, some older lures do work wonders - I think I posted once about the effectiveness of a Lazy Ike...

By the way, great day fishin' that gar is a monster...
