Default tailgate dilemma

Is it my bad luck or something else. My 96 Chevy tailgate developed the problem of not latching. I tried wd-40 and it worked for awhile. I took it to the shop and they said it was fixed. Didn't last. I now have a 05 GMC and it does the same thing. Anybody have the same problem with Chevy/GMC? Any ideas on a fix would be helpful, Thanks.

No problem on my newer ones, but my old work truck (88 GMC) had that problem. Probably because it had the crap smashed out of it my idiots loading it with forklifts that didn't know how to drive them and 230,000+ miles. But the mechanism did stick sometimes and you had to slam it to get the tabs to come out on the sides.

Naw....I got a f150 with the same problem. JC whitney sell new latch assemblies, but its easier to just wd-40 and bang on it...
