Default Grill Discussion

ok fellas, we've seen the bad a$$ grill zook cooks on. what does everybody else use. i currently have a jenn-air gas and i like it. but lately me and the wife are contemplating upgrading to a traeger. you know, to get the whole smoke thing. so throw it out there, what ya got?

and if there are any traeger owners, honest opinions please. are they all that? here's what she wants.

A Uniflame charcoal grill from Wal-Mart. $30, baby.
If you're not cooking with charcoal, you might as well cook it on the stove.

I built my own smoker. No need to go high-dollar, mine was built for about $100 and it is a great smoker. Controls heat real well, and I get about 12 hours on 10 pounds of charcoal at 225.

This is the thread where I got the info on how to build my own. It is 96 pages and 1439 posts long, so get ready. Some great pictures and suggestions, though.

Before I went with Traegers, I would look at the Backwoods Smokers and the Spicewines. Both VERY nice uprights. I haven't seen or heard a bad thing about either. The SW is a little better looking (custom paint jobs) but is MUCH heavier.

I am glad you like it. If you want to get crazy, go to the following link and you will find more BBQ info than you know what to do with. And you can still build that drum.
