Topwater Frogs

Who makes good topwater frogs and what are some colors that work?
Also is there ever a time when the type of tail matters, such as a skirt or a curly tail?

I will usually throw the spo bronze eye frogs. They have the skirted legs. For color, I use a green, a white, and a black. Black at night, white in the bright sunlight, and green along the tullies. If you are throwing them into the muck, color is not that important. If I am in an area where the grass does not reach the water's surface, I will switch to a zoom horny toad since I can let it sink a little. I usually stick with a green variation.

me i lioke the horny toad in watermelon seed. it seemed to work less this last summer than the buzzbait but it still worked decent.

like zooker I like the horny toad. My color is watermelon red. For something different, try the Strike King rat. I know it's not a frog but it's cheap and lasts along time. They are easy to throw and are snagless.

Gambler makes a pretty good topwater frog/toad. Fat feet create a sound as you reel it across the pads. Love the attack from a bass on those. Spro also just came out with the Bronze Eye in popper style that sounds like could be a winner, especially over grass beds.

Bobby, I was waiting for a 1000 word essay on your froggin theory and review of the selection of frogs out there on the market.

I like the scumfrog trophy series frogs the best.I am not a great frogger as I tend to pick up a jig rod and throw it in the heart of the slop before I think to throw a frog over it.The sunny days when its dead calm and I can't get quiet boat position to the areas is when I use the frog.

For floating hollow body frogs, Spro bronzeyes. For soft plastic ones, Zoom horny toads or Strike King ragetail toads. The horny toads a bit more subtle, and the ragetail kick out more water.

Been playing with the Bully Wa myself. Got the middle sized green one late in the year but have some plans for it next year! I didn't know that there was a smaller one when I bought it. Just might have to pick one up this winter (yep the monkey is back!).

The water will be clear with weeds densley packed in 15 ft or less.

I planned on getting a spro bonzeye frog, so which color would be the best?

can't go wrong with the green/black spro. i've also had alot of luck with my brown one. and the bright green leopard frog. do you see a pattern here?

yes I just wanted some more input that way I could make a good decision because they are $9 a piece, which is expensive for me

That all depends on what sort of conditions your gonna be using them in.

I personally wouldn't throw a frog in those conditions, more like a Bandit100 Tenn. shad.

I didn't think so either but a friend of mine won 2 tournaments this year throwing a frog in open water.

I'm hooked on Strike Kings Ragetail frogs.......Amazing amount of action from a chunk of plastic.

Leopard frog have off colored white on their bellies and green/black spots. That would be my first color of choice.

in open water I would try to match the native frogs in your area/ Or try to match the baitfish in your body of water.
