I built a new house this year , and we now have a mouse or mice in our attached garage. I am sure they are field mice since there are fields all around us. I put out 4 glue traps and hope they get nailed tonite...how do I keep them out ? Is there a way at all ? I have a dog and cat inside the house , but not the garage.

if your boat is in there do two things put a plug in the bilge and one in the live well exit.. or a mouse will make a nice nest in your boat..moth balls seem to help..
imo i would grab the hair ball and chunk it in the garge for a couple days..i have my own rat removal system. a rat terrier called maria.. a good black snake can rid the area of quite a few rats it self so don't wack them.. zooker

We had a bunch of field mice invade our home when we moved in. We first used glue traps but there are too many of them once they get in your house and glue traps are expensive. We then used poison but they end up dying in the walls. They stink for about 2 weeks and then the smell is gone. Finally (since it worked) we purchased the Riddex plug in thing (as seen on TV). That thing definitely worked since we have not had one mouse since then. We have two in the house. One upstairs above the garage and the other is downstairs on the opposite end of the house.

i worked pest control for a couple of years in florida. the only way to keep them out is to walk the outside of your building and be sure that it is completely sealed, that being said, if a mouse can get half his head in a hole they will literally flatten themselves out to squeeze in. bottom line is it's nearly impossible to keep them out. making sure there is a healthy black snake population will help.

Our hunting camp used to have the same problem, it sits on a pond and old apple fields are right out the back door. The only way that we got rid of the mice was with a contraption that my grandfather came up with...it went something like this: A large plastic 50 gallon drum cut in half, fill the bottom of the drum with about 4inches of water...punch two small holes in the top of the drum just below the lip and run a thin wire(metal hanger) straight across (like a tightrope above a pond of death)...now comes the fun part...put the barrel next to a table or workbench so they can reach the wire, put some small drops of peanut butter on the bench and put a nice glob of it on the wire somewhere in the middle, grease the wire with some crisco oil & the trap is SET!
We nearly caught a hundred mice in over the course of a week, needless too say we could have left the door open to the camp over the next 5 years as we didn't see a single mouse.

Man, greasing the rope doesn't really sound very sportsmanlike......

In your opinion. In my opinion it sounds like a freakin Olympic sport. I could get drunk and watch mice try to walk across a greased rope, for some peanut butter, over a pond of death all day long. |

Peanut butter and victor mouse traps. Tie your trap with a string to prevent the mouse from dragging yout trap away.
Also dryer sheets in your boat keeps mice out.I don't know why but it seems to work. |

EDIT: Just thought of this, too. We could make a drinking game out of it. If the mouse falls off to the right, you take a drink, if it falls to the left, I drink... Last edited by MississippiBoy; 11-19-08 at 06:37 PM. |

One down , hopefully no more to go... My wife put an ear of corn from halloween decorations in a trash bag with some dead flower foliage , I noticed the bag moving around , so I took it outside and took care of the little critter , it was a field mouse for sure , maybe thats why it preferred seeds and corn ?

GWS3 is right but completely sealed is impossable, decon works for me. and pepperment oil on cotton balls is what i use in the boat, do something with the boat whatever it may be, the nasty lil bastages can destroy the inside or your boat in just a few weeks, seats carpet wiring life vests and they are gonna shat all over it!

you are right about the kids and pets earl. that is why we put it INSIDE the walls, before they were covered with sheetrock and brick (outside). and we also put it UNDER THE HOUSE, along the foundation walls that is. never had a field mouse come in there. gotta do it to this house this year, lmao. found 2 dead already. you smell em afterwards, lol.
