Frog rod

Triton is under the cover & in the garage until March. Re-evaluating gear & decided to add a dedicated frog rod with 50lb braid. Looked at falcon Bobbys perfect frog rod, daiwa light & tough, powell 735, 766, dobyns 735,736,766, lamiglas 797, 766, and crucials. Absolutely refuse to dedicate that much $ for just a frog/slop rod. I am considering falcons original 6-17 H casting and fenwicks HMXT70H 7’ H. Any other recomendations are greatly welcome. Thanks.

Do you need to spend that much for a frog rod ?

I don't like a long rod for froggin but everyone is different.I use a 6'10" Heavy Tour edition rod.

I had trouble with the longer rod flexing allowed them to bury down in the crap so I had to get on the trolling motor and go get them.With the rod I use now I pull them out and ski them across the top of the slop.

i use the hmxt70h- same rod-for the frog. get a new one the 04-06 models are made using a bigger/heavier blank than the 07-09 models are. please note just because it is lighter in weight and smaller blank size don't mean it is weaker..i haul bass out of hydrilla and the stuff we call grass.-actually japanesse day flower-which resembles small buck brush..

as long as you get a good hook set and keep tension on the fish let him ball up in the weeds. you can just go in and get him since he wont be going anywhere.. i had a 7.2 pound bass ball me up in a combo of hydrilla and the woody grass we have here.. i just went in after him.. once you get hold of the bass's jaw he comes out of the wad very easily..

I'd go with the falcon or the shimano. I've heard Lamiglass rods are extremely heavy compared to other brands. Although some of the shimano rods are heavy too.

I use a 6-10 H action Falcon Low Rider. Not a dedicated frog rod-works great, and it doubles as the rod I throw spider grubs on.

I've actually had great success with a 6'6" MH All-Star rod. I use 55lb Diawa braid with this set up. I have a 7' H St. Croix Frog & Slop rod but I love it for flipping!

I actually went the crazy route and got a custom rod made for froggin. Seems like overkill (and it is

) for just froggin, but it doubles as the best jig rod I've ever used, so it was a good investment. I like 50lb braid as well.
