Well, caught my first bass of 2009. At a small pond that still had ice in the shady end. Fish was about one and half pounder. Used 3/8 blue black jig with a brown pork chunk. Caught him on a laydown on a point. You know the ol' "spot on a spot".

congrats buddy!!! always love the first one of the year. and you did better than me. mine was MAYBE half a pound. the only one that bit all day. but we gots lots of fish to catch this year, right?

Bama, good hearin' from ya. The ice is slowly but surely receding up here in southern New England and there are lots of subtle signs of the coming spring.
This will be my first shot at soft swimbaits this year. The Bait Monkey insisted I buy those Optimum Double diamonds and Poor Boys Silly bunny 6'" bluegill.

Jim, thanks for the encouragement. As a side note, I used to fish for small mouth below the Stevenson Dam on the Housatonic River. I'm sure you've been there seeing as you're from Naugatuck,CT.
