Did you set it down in sand? Open it up and lube it. You also my have some how striped a bolt. Try returning it and get an other one, see if the same thing happens, if not get you cash back and get an other reel.

when it is cold out, you have to clean out the oil, or something, I don't know what it is, but it like clogs the gears

Add some reel grease to the worm gear that the pawl rides on but first, try try to clear any grit that may have become embedded in the threads of the worm gear. A good blast of of WD40 may solve that problem but shake the excess out and apply, with a toothpick, a little reel GREASE INTO the threads. Second, Make certain that line has not gotten between the spool and the sideplate. If you've over-loosened the cast control (the knob on the crank side,) some loose line (as in sloppy backlash clearing or excess slack,) may have slipped over the rim of the spool. Remove the left sideplate and remove the spool to see if any bits of detritus (See: Stuff, Junk, Crud, etc.) have gotten in. While you have the spool out, put a TINY drop of the aforementioned oil on the all the bearings you can see. Then add a TINY drop on each side of the thumbar where it's "axle" enters the body of the reel...both sides. When applying the oil, always tilt the reel so that the oil can ooze where it needs to be. Third, make certain any and all sideplate screws are tight. If these measures fail, follow the instructions and disassemble the reel, making certain you arrange parts in order on a cloth as you do so. This should assure that you get it all back together in proper order. Then clean the parts, paying close attention to the main and pinion gears. Apply a tad of GREASE to those and reassemble IN ORDER. This is better than demanding an exchange or refund when the problem originated with the user. Running to the seller or manufacturer every time a piece of gear hiccups is wimpy AND dishonest. In other words, good buddy..."Paddle your own canoe"-Teddy Roosevelt. I think Lancer is dead on. I have a Revo S that has been through a year of 5 day a week fishing and have no issue with the smoothness so I think a little maintenance should do the trick.

All I use are Revo's, and now and then, they need a good cleaning. My winch gets "gummy" after a month of not cleaning it, or when I have to fish a tournament in the rain. Usually it casts better while it's raining but a couple days later it slows down on me.

yeah i have one too, doc same thing goes with me... Lancer, idk if grease is the answer... i have had to take mine back 3 times, and 2 times were because of grease... oil will be the only thing touching my revo from now on... the other time i had to take it back was a defect, but the local store where i bought it from closed a little before huntin season so luckily it hasnt acted up anymore.

now, MY REVO (an sx-hs) started acting up after a year and a half of constant fishing...i oil on a regular basis and have greased the gears several times. watch for the levelwind to start hanging to one side, if it does, replace the pawl. had mine replaced and pro-cleaned for $20 at an independent tackle shop. now it's back like new. note: all mine will go for an annual check-up at the end of the season. it'll be money well spent. | |

I like to use Rusty Duck gun cleaning solvent and an old tooth brush. Then re-lube with Hot Sauce. Takes about 10 minutes to take it apart, another 10 to scrub, and another 10 to assemble. Great project for those days when you can't get out on the lake and it saves a ton of cussing fits.

My revo premier was experiencing the same thing your talking about. After a little inspection I seen that the slider above the worm gear (very technical description I know) had amassed some gunk (be it old grease, slime from water, whatever). Just get a q tip and clean with solvent then put a light coat of oil on it. After i did this I havn't had a problem again, tho I do check that part and my worm gear regulary for buildup. I should note that I to disasemble my reel and clean it like everyone else mentioned, it's just for some reason this particular part gunks up quick, so if you do that between cleanings and keep an eye on it it shouldnt give you any trouble. |
