				 | Replacing tips?

How costly is it to replace a tip on a rod? Can I have this done locally?

If the tip just came off, it is a simple taks to reglue. If it broke, then make sure that the tip you get will fit since you are now deeling with a larger diameter. If it did break off, make sure you didn't split it as well. I have seen that cause issues down the road.

i always cut it off at the next line guide and then make the tip that size.. walmart sells the rod tip repair kit with multiple sizes, and a little stick of glue. you heat it with a lighter and put it on the rod then slide the tip on, make sure its straight, and your set. i would suggest taking some of the "gel coat" off the rod where you plan to apply glue so it adheres good.

Honestly, I don't think they sell higher end tips in those kits. If you're using braid, then you'll definatley want to go with something a bit more expensive, such as Fuji SiC tip. Braid with just eat through cheap ceramic guides. If the tip in cracked or something, take a alighter or a match to it, and it shou;ld melt the glue underneath and you should be able to pull it right off. Them get some 5-10 min epoxy to glue the new tip in. If the top of the rod broke, I'd cut it right under the damaged area and glue it on there. You can get good guides at a good price from www.jannsnetcraft.com. by the way, for those who aren't familiar with rod building, the sizes of the tips (4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, etc) are in sixty fourths... Makes it a bit confusing, but oh well. If you give them a call at Net craft, they'll be able to help you get the right size. BB

Probably not more than $12.00 Just find a local shop in your area or in Portland. If you were in the Seattle area, I would recommend Sportco or Outdoor Emporium.

MrP, not just Fuji. fuji also makes cheaper guides. And more important if what the guide is made of. SiC (Silicon Carbide) is the best for braided line although Alconite will work fine. Cheaper materials like ceramic will stand up to braid as well and you'll soon have to re-replace them. BB
