Baitcaster question
my girlfriend bought me the abu garcia ambassadeur 6600 bcx for my brithday and im not familiar with baitcasters a whole lot so i was wondering if i should trade the round classic baitcaster in for a low profile oblong baitcaster for the same amount of money. i will be using this for crankbaits and spinnerbaits and some soft plastics. what do you guys think?

It's really just a matter of preferance. Which feels better in your hands, and is it easier to use one over the other. I have both styles and still use both. My hands are small so the low profile is my preferance, but the quality of the round casting reels is still excellent.

Welcome to the site Bgolladay!
I would not part ways with your girlfriend's gift. Me and my wife have known each other for 24 years, and I have never received a gift like that. If you do decide to exchange it, I think that would be the last gift of that sort. imho ~Mark |

That reel is pretty nice, and even with the chance it doesn't suit you 100% perfectly (you may end up loving it, who knows?), you have to consider all of those other fishing gifts she's gonna get right in the future!

The lower gear ratio of that reel would be great for throwing crank baits man and I also like to use them to throw a c-rig . welcome to the site man Jim

Its not the round versus low profile thing that you should trade it in for. Many prefer round reels.
That is a larger model. 6600 is the largest levelwind that I think Garcia markets to bass fishermen. I also doubt you would get your moneys worth out of it, there are models on ebay for sale for $47. My suggestion would be as Jim says, pair it up with a long 7' rod and 15 pound mono and use it for large crankbaits and spinnerbaits.

the 6600 is a beast it holds 245 yards of 14 pound test...most are very diffacult to cast. and would NOT make a good beginner reel...used to use this size reel for big water trout and musky..
