NEW BOAT

Well folks, I think I have convinced the old lady to let me find a new boat. Being on the east coast of Fl., Ive recently revisited the saltwater.. ie: flats,inter coastal,etc.. So now the question. Im looking for a decent boat that can handle salt and fresh water? Thinking about a flats boat, possibly a bay boat, also noticed ranger and nitro make a saltwater "bassboat". Do you feel a bay boat would suffice as a bassboat? I love my bass fishing, probably still do that the most. The other day though I hooked a 40" Tarpon and man o man was that addicting. Looking for some personal knowledge or experiences for this. You guys will be helping a lot w/ my selection process. The reason Im looking at a saltwater boat vs. freshwater is because of the construction. Saltwater boats are designed to take the daily thrashing of the salt, fresh water boats aren't. All comments appreciated. 8)

dont know much about the boats but make sure the trailer is galvanized or the salt will eat it for breakfast. i build boat trailers for a living and have seen what salt does to a painted trailer.

A bay boat will work, but they don't have the storage of a bass boat. That is always a consideration. I think a bass boat will work in the bay, but from what I understand the most critical part is not the boat but the trailer-it needs to be galvanized, otherwise it will rust out real quick.

I know that Nitro, Ranger, and Triton all make a dual purpose boat for both fresh and salt water fishing. I have ridden in the Ranger and the Nitro boats, and they are both very nice. The biggest change is the addition of a saltwater motor and the removal of carpet that is replaced by a white non-skid surface.

I just sold a bay boat that I used mostly for freshwater fishing about a year ago. They do run shallow, but the trade off is that they ride rough. If you can swing it, I would go with one of the dual purpose boats, especially since you will be fishing freshwater more than saltwater.

I like Fred Hatch better than the one you chose to use. FLfireman always reminds me of Flabasser, or flabass hole, or FlaFlamingFlamingo(pink variety) or the famous Flabassoholic. Hey Firefly. Did you ever pick out a flats boat yet. Just curious. I still would be lookin at those storm flats boats. I did some more research after you posted on the other site and man I gotta tell ya they build one nice boat and they fish just like a bass rig. They really look like they would fill the niche of a dual purpose boat and serve them well. Let us know what you di.

Man some of those ranger flats boats or as you guys call them bay boats look real nice. Oh and the main reason for taking out the carpet is so you dont get fish guts and blood on it on the fish's trip to the fish box (only in the saltwater of course).
