Rained out at work so I decided to try my luck on the lake, hoping to stay dry and catch some fish. (No to the first, yes to the second)
Headed to Lake Dubonnet and caught some pike and bass. Got tired of bein soaked so I headed for the boat launch. Just before I got to the launch, the sun popped out (wouldn't last long), water clarity seriously increased, so I said "screw the boat launch" and headed on past it to the other side of the lake. Set up shop just outside some pads I've been fishing lately. Got a nice hit but no hook up and no repeat strike on the next cast. Shifted about 30' to the left and got a really nice hit just on the edge of the pads, and it was on. Got himself into the pads and I was starting to realize he was a nice one, and wondering if I was gonna be able to get him. Got him out of the pads & he started runnin with my line. My drag was set at max. Once I got him turned and saw him roll, I knew he was a big fish. Then I got nervous, knowing that this would probably beat my old record. The closer I got him to the boat I kept thinkin "don't miss the lip!". Luckily I didn't miss it and beat my old pb by 1/2 pound. This one weighed in at 4.5. I'm tellin my boss I'm glad we got rained out ![]()
