Your best/most expensive combos, and what they cost you?

Wondering what kind of combos you guys have, and what you best and or most expensive, and what they cost you, also some pics would be real nice if you have any, or even you best looking combo! . Mine is a BPS Johnny Morris Gold, limited Edition, and a Cabelas XML rod, split grip handle. It's a 300$ combo and I payed 140 for it, got the reel on close out for 100 bucks, and the rod on sale for 40. Great combo (the reel's just a bit heavy), GREAT price. I'll look around to see if I have any pics of it for you guys.

My favorite/most expensive would be my Fenwick Elite Tech Spinnerbait rod with a Quantum Catalyst.
Normal price of $350, Mallen price of $190

I reckon mine is the one I just got from this past Christmas. It is a Curado 200E5 mounted on a TigeRod 7' M M Crankin' stick built on a North Fork blank. I think I have about $450 tied in it.

I normally don't answer threads like this because some see it as bragging.

But there's been a lot of monkey activity lately, and lots of showing off new gear, and no has seemed to mind like some have in the past.

So... If I switched my cheap reel with my most expensive one to make my most expensive combo, it'd have to be my Loomis IMX and Skeet Reese Revo. $565 retail for the two of them, but I only payed $160 for the IMX and $180 for the Revo. To a total of $340. and a savings of $225.

I have to balance my (low) income with quality gear in my price range... so my best combo ever was this week: a Pflueger Trion GX-7 spinning reel with a 7' Med IM8 rod. Cost me $60 for the combo.

I have more than I care to admit in my rod/reels. They are not the most expensive, but they are not cheap either. If you looked at my post with pictures of my new rods, you'll get the idea.

Mine is an Orvis 10 wt three piece rod 1200.00 with a Mach IV reel and spare spool 600.00. Plus three lines came with it at 70 bucks each.

Oh for an added bonus I got two days of false albacore fishing paid for.

The most I paid for my self is 125 for a St Croux flipping stick/poolcue.

I run relatively cheap reels (but IMO they are as good if not better than the more expensive ones) so that I can run higher end rods. For me, the rod makes up 90% of the performance, so I spend more money on them.

Average - Around $280-$300

Hmm...My most expensive combo is probably my Zillion on a custom rod that I built. I've got about $150 tied up in the rod between materials and shipping and the Zillion goes for $270, so $420.

My combos probably average more in the $250 - $300 range though.

Pro Qualifier rods with Team Diawa reels. Those ran me about $250 each a long time ago.

I have always looked at it the other way, as long as the workhorse reel is working well then it can do its job on any rod, as long as you keep that close to your preference. For me that is usually a 7' M or MH rod.

Glx about $340 Chronarch about $280. $620? I didn't pay that much. Maybe around $500.

I agree with you, especially more now than I used to, that a good rod in most cases is equally or more important than a good reel.

I am curious though as to what relatively cheap reels you are using that are better than expensive ones? I don't mean that to be confrontational, just curious.
