and friend. A knot isn't a knot until you pull it tight. Advise that worked out well for me this past weekend. So bad of a backlash in 50# braid that I hand lined the lure in and put the rod in the bottom of the boat until I got home. Two days later, I was able to pick out all of the backlash and all but about ten feet of the line. |

Sounds like good advice. I've done that before with braid and mono. Got the braid out but not the mono.

When you say "Two days later", how much of that time was spent on the bird's nest?

Backing used. This was a fluke wind lash.

We have all had freak birds nests. I once had a bow rider with a rod rack fastened in front of the windshield. The worst backlashes I ever suffered were when I accidentally snagged one of the spare rods on the back cast. All the energy that should have thrown the bait 90 feet went into spinning the spool into one of the mothers of all birds nests. In many cases once I got it home, I took the reel apart. By removing the spool I could work on the problem from all sides. Garry |

Ok look..i will backlash at least once in every 10-20 casts. It happens to all of us. Hahaha on waiting 2 days to pick it out. I have waited a whole week to do it before because it made me so mad. Garry2rs has a valid point on taking the spool out, sometimes it is easier that way.

Garry, those "snag something on the back cast" backlashed are the worst! I was throwing a crankbait once and snagged the handle of my tackle bag behind me on the ground. Not only did I bury two of the treble hooks into the handle, but I got one of those, "If I fix this now, it'll be time to leave when I'm done" backlashes. I was glad it was just mono, cause I had to cut it all out. BB

Agreed, except it adds another dimension when fishing on land. I fish on a boat a lot but also fish on the land a lot. You wanna talk about bad when you throw something and it grabs a tree or a bush on the backswing. The worst I remember was throwin a buzzbait last year bait was hitting the surface so I tried to throw it all the way to out where it was and it hit the tree above me and bye bye line. It sucked even worse that i had to get back on my bike and ride home after 10 minutes of fishing. haha.
