Midweek outing
Took a mental health day yesterday and fished a mid-week gathering amoungst some buddies.....shhhhhh the boss doesn't know about it . Overcast with a little drizzle and incoming tide to start and outgoing for most of the day. Perfect day for some topwater action!
Hit a favorite marsh bank with some pads and picked up a couple short fish. Moved on and hit some more pads. Chatterbait works it's magic and I hit a 3.5, a 4.0, and a 2.0 on two passes. My partner, a past PVA AOY runner-up, tells me he's never thrown a chatterbait before. He's got one but never used it. I toss him a skirt and a trailer to use and next thing I know he's whipping my butt and catching his fourth keeper of the day. I finally hit my fourth keeper on the same bait. Working back to where we started I toss up to some pads and it's on!!! I'm thinking 6-8lbs when I set the hook but the fish comes up with a big toothy grin and I've got my first snakehead of the year. Weighs in at 5.4 lbs. We make a short run and my friend hooks up with something big. It runs left and then right and the baby 1 pops free. We move again and now we start throwing topwater as the tide is low. I get a good blow up and swing and miss. My friend hits his 5th keeper and I catch the smallest fish of the day on my first horney toad fish of the year. A massive 8" bass. We're running out of time so we head back to where we started the day to finish up. Tide is dead low and I start working a baby brush hog knock off. I like the bait because it floats and the tails stand up off the bottom but the fish don't eat it. They pick it up and spit it right away. This happens three times in a row. I switch over to a Zoom Super Hog and bam! keeper in the boat. We continue working some marsh bank and I hit two more keepers and cull twice. Time to go! It's been a good day with two limits in the boat. Back at weigh in it seems that it was a good day on the water. 15lb bag wins the get together with a couple 14's and 13's. My bag takes 5th and my partner is 8th. It was a good mental health day.....you can tell the boss that! Pics coming....... |

Mental health day, huh? seems being on the water is the only cure for our fishing insanity.
Sounds like a fun day though! BB

Repercussions for not allowing an employee to take a sick day off for mental health reasons would be severe in this day and age.
