Bing maps
Bing is something I use quite often to look at my home lake from different perspectives and try to figure out where the fish might be hiding at different times of the year. Anyway, I was checking out an updated satellite photo that looks like it is from earlier this year (they drop the lake levels in winter to prevent ice from damaging all the docks) and noticed something interesting. There was a section that held water that was a different color from the rest of the lake. My question is what would cause the difference in color? Is it just a difference in water clarity or maybe a difference in bottom composition? I would love to hear some opinions.

Do you have a topographical map of that lake?
If so, the area could be deeper, resulting in darker color. Or it could be shallower, resulting in more blue-green algae. Endless range of possibilities here. A topographical reference would be very helpful.

I would guess that it's just a reflection from the clouds overhead..just a guess tho

No topo map. From my own experience, the lake is pretty much just a big bowl shape. The shorelines are always shallow and as you move out, it gradually gets deeper. That spot is right around mid-lake, so the deepest it would get is roughly 20 feet in the middle. My original thought was the same, just a difference in depth, but the color continues all the way up into the shoreline on the south bank. This is what cause the confusion for me. Any possibility that it is shadows from clouds?

I would guess that the dark green area is deeper.

I've seen the same thing around here. I think it's a cloud's shadow.

A shadow is something I totally missed, but it sounds very likely to me.

Pretty positive its clouds. There are some maps where you can see the white puffiness and the corresponding shapes of shadows on the ground. I did know of one map that had what appeared to be a military plane in flight with a shadow on the ground. Thats what the shadows looked like.

I talked with my older brother last night, he knows a lot about satellites and how they operate. He confirms that it is most likely cloud shadows. He has also seen them in satellite photos taken on Bing and Google. And it seems like the general consensus is the same here. I was hoping I stumbled across the best piece of structure in the entire lake!! Oh well, thanks for all the input. Looks like I'll have to keep searching for some decent summertime structure to fish.

Yea you can tell from the way the houses are tilted. A satellite can only look straight down.
