Swimjig idea

Had an idea come to me that I'm definately going to try. I was wondering if anyone had beat me to the idea and how did it work out for you. I have a couple swim jigs with the bluegill color patterns, which is the primary forage for bass in my lakes. Up till now I've used 4 inch single and double twist tail grubs as trailors. But how about a 3 1/2 inch hollowbody swimbait? The bulk of the body and swimming action would not only look very realistic but also allow you to run the jig shallower at a slower retrieve, which I would think would be very usefull.

Did it , and I even tried the Lake Fork Magic Shad. I think thats what it was called , its the segmented body. Anyway , for me ( and I have been known to be impatient ) it did not produce. I am still convinced that it would catch fish , especially the Lake Fork swimbait , as it has way more action than the smaller hollow swimbaits.

I have done it keith but I use a solid plastic swimbait instead cause the tail gets more kick to it . It catches fish with out a doubt

I've caught fish on a sexy shad swim jig with the lake fork shad as a trailer. I prefished a tourny with it but come tourny day a white spinnerbait caught more fish so i stuck with that.

I've never tried that exactly but I've heard a lot of guys using the back half of a swim Senko. I have used a Paca Chunk this year as suggested by some people and I caught one or two but I haven't done it much.

Hi Keith... check out the Optimum Double Diamond Swimmer. It's a great lure/trailer for around heavy grass where you really need to cause some commotion and vibration. You can even wake your swim jig on top with this as a trailer.

Yup! Not a hollow swimbait, but a full one. Worked well for be right before they started spawning. It was a Yum somekinda saltwater swimbait, on a SK bluegill swim jig.

bite the head off a skinny dipper and put it on as the trailer in not only paddles but it also has a rolling effect just like they do by themselves it is an awesome set up.

Hey, thanks for the tip Kevin! Those look perfect for what I want to do. I'll definately givem a try. That sunfish pattern bait looks like it would work well on a bluegill colored jig. Or the Jackson Trout.

Well, I was using a Strikeking KVD swimbait with a 3 1/2 inch Luck E Strike Bass Magic swimbait for a trailor. It did "ok", but I was hoping for a bit more of a swimming action. There was some definate tail wiggling going on but the majority of the swimbaits body was rather stiff. And you had to swim it rather fast to get that swimming action. That being said, I did catch one bass and lost another in just 30 minutes around lilly pads in shallow water about 4-5 foot deep from shore. By then the mosquitos were comming out in waves and chased me off. The funny thing was the bites didnt come while swimming the jig, but rather by jigging the jig in the traditional lift and drop method. I do think the short lived experiment showed good potential. Definately going to get some of those Optimum Double Diamonds!

Keith-I haven't done it, but I hear if you dunk the tail of the swimbait in boiling water it will soften it up. Might help.

I use a Strike King fluke sometimes, in the 3X plastic - they are really soft and have a good "wiggle". They also work very well on a chatter bait.
