Trilene big game line

What is your opinion of Trilene Big Game Line as to castability, knot strength, memory, an etc. I will be using it for casting crankbaits, swimbaits, and maybe some jigs. Do not like fluro or braid and I fish a deep clear TVA resovoir. Have used Trilene XT and XL in the past and will be using a baitcasting reel.

I think it is comparable to the Trilene XL in castability, knot strength, and memory. But is much better on abrasion resistance and doesnt seem to stretch as much as teh XL.. I used Trilene XL exclusively til i started trying Big Game this year. So far I like it. I will say if you start getting up in the 20lb test realm it starts to lose all of its positive qualities...

This is my first year using Big Game line. It's so cheap, I was sure it wasn't a very good line, after all, you get what you pay for right??? But so many guys in here like it that I thought I'd give it a try. After all, you get like a million yards for like 6 bucks, lol. Ok, exageration there. Anyways, I bought a spool of the 17 pound line to use for spinnerbaits, and other shallow water applications where there would be woody cover and such. I have discovered that cheap doesn't mean poor quality. It has casted well, held up well, and landed me some beautiful bass from heavy cover. I have not had a break off yet using Big Game. By all means, give it a try, after all, it cheap, and it's only fishing. It's not like your life depends on it!

From my experiance I do not like Berkley fishing line.
Im not saying the stuff is bad but its not the best for your buck.
I recommend and have had good luck using Ande premium monofilament.

Its a pretty good overall line. Lately a friend of mine who used it exclusively has had many problems with the line breaking when applying very little pressure. I have not had those problems yet though so I will continue using it for the time being. I would reccommend 17-20lb for the swimbaits and jigs but a 12 for cranks. if you are only going to use the line on one rod/reel for all of them,then I would go with 15lb.

I have used it extensively this year, I have always used Stren. I like it for strength but it does have some memory. I think for the money it is ok. I change my line before each tournament so it does not stay on more than a couple weeks, so I'd have no idea if it holds up for very long.

Thought I'd let you know mine has been on my reels since April and still going strong. I'll be changing it soon though. It does have some memory, but it's not as bad as some others I've used. But I change my line at least twice a year when it comes to my mono setups. Not a tournament fisherman here, lol.

Forget any Trilene and buy Sufix Elite or Siege. Siege is slightly stiffer (not much), but more abrasion resistant.

Both are much more manageable than any Trilene I've used including XL.

I use 25lb for pitching heavy weights into thick grass and cover. Holds up well and haven't had an issue with breaking fish off. It does stretch a little which caused me to miss a fish or two when first starting to use it. Don't miss many now.

I have used big game for the last several years. Due to me falling in love with Seaguar Invizx this year, now I mainly use big game on my spinnerbait rods but, I keep a big spool of 15lb big game in the boat...and a spare reel spooled up with big game there as well.
I will say i tried to use a half spool from last year....the memory was so great that I threw it out but, a new spool I opened last week was perfect

I originally bought it in 12lb test for a Catfish & Carp line... I needed to spool up quite a few reels (6 or 7) and needed some line for cheap. I bought Berkley Big Game. The only things I like about it is that it's super stretchy and has a bit of memory when first put on a reel. I've had BBG on a Tiger spinning reel for around a year now and it's as limp as most lines I've used.

When I got my first baitcaster I put the BBG on it, because I knew I'd need some line because of constant backlashes. Truth is I still use it from time to time for backlashes, lmao.

It's a good line for cheap, I hate the low-vis green color (can't line watch with it) but if I had the choice I'd much rather have Stren.

Berkly changes the formula on it so often that you really never know what you're gonna get. My dad had a spool that was good stuff, rather low stretch, 2 or so years back, so I got some too. HATED the stuff. S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-Y stuff it was! It's simply unreliable.

One line I have used and loved for every application is 12lb p-line cxx. TOUGH line, super abrasion resistant, and low stretch. I'll throw a jig in brush piles for an hour and not have to retie once. Also the low stretch helps feel bites!

Can't recall a time I've ever broke a knot (the the line for that mater) when I use either the trilene, fish n fool, uni, or Palomar knot. It's memory is a bit on the high side, but I don't mind at all.

Another line I'm interested in trying (and will hopefully be my next non-braided line) is Hi Seas White lighting. It's very thin line, apparently low memory, and boats fabulous sensitivity! This line is kinda hard to fine, but you can get it NIB on ebay. Under 8 bucks a spool too. It's also white, so it's easy for you to see. Fish don't care!

How do you know they change the formula constantly. I'd bet they rarely change it, if they do at all.

Also, I hate "stetchey" line.

I've used alot of Biggame line cause its inexpensive....but I agree with the others thats its stretchy, and has cost me a fish or two because of that, and it has too much memory to suit me....but for the price you can afford to change it out frequently.

I used to use it but I had similar issues with the stretch. I tried CXX for a bit...too stiff and too much memory for me. My goto line is now PLine Evolution. I have had very few memory problems, it cast great and is strong as an ox (like CXX). I know it is a bit higher priced than BBG, but if it keeps me happy I live with it.

I've been using big game for awhile now and I love it. It has less memory than any of the suffix i have used and holds up well no matter what you're throwin it into. People have said that they think it's stretchy but I'd say it's only slighter stretchier than others.

Big Game is good, cheap line. I have problems with 10lb or less on spinning reels, but for the money you really can't beat it.
