Finding the Salt Line On The Potomac
Anyone know of a website, which will tell the status of salt at various locations on the Potomac?

I too would like to know. Kevin, if you could tell us how to determine this and also what kind of impact the salt content has on the fish.

I found it at: mddnr.chesapeakebay.net
1. If you get a string of choices after typing in the web site, select MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES-CHESAPEAKE BAY. 2. On their web site click on: Continuous Monitoring Technologies: Continuous Monitoring and Spacial Intensive Monitoring. 3. On the table click on: Continuous Monitoring. 4. In the narrative click on: Map of Stations. 5. When the map opens select the location on the river you want and click on "Salinity". |

Check for crab nets and that should give you a clue. If you find breaking blue fish out in front of Mattawoman that might also help you out. Salt really doesn't affect the bass around Aquia creek. You can find them at the mouth all year long.
I do know that you can get Salinity Test strips and check it yourself. |

Thanks for all the info. I saw a tiny Bass being eaten by crabs last weekend in the Quantico cove. The crabs were still there but far fewer of them remain.

Take your hand and dip it in the water. Closed fingers and breath in gently covering your mouth with tongue out. If you taste salt you have salt..
Do not drink the water. Capt Mike

Question is does it make a difference to the bass or the species you are fishing for? If so at what levels? I think it's different for bass and blue catfish.
