Default Can anyone tell me what kind of geese these are?

Or maybe they aren't geese?

Wondering about the two brownish/reddish ones in the lower right of the picture. My dad sent me this picture taken at a small lake in northern Iowa.

If you know what kind of geese/birds they are, please let me know. Thanks!

They have the same face markings as those canadian geese in the background. I have never seen any that color though.

I am wondering if they are a cross breed of some sort? Take a close look at the goose in the picture front left. It has the same color type markings as a Canadian, but has a tuffted head and orange legs and feet.

Don't know, but it doesn't resemble any wild North American goose.

Yeah, good point. I was so focused on the other two that I didn't even notice the orange legs on the one in the front left of the picture. They have the look of Canada geese, but I've never seen that color before.

Looks like the Canada Geese as far as pattern goes. I'd say they were albino. With the lack of dark pigments, albinos often have orange or light orange/brown areas where browns and dark browns should be.

might be a cross between a Canadian and a Snow Goose, they seem to travel in the same flocks allot.

it is no doubt a cross between a Domesticated american buff or other tasseled drake of some sort and a wild canadian hen. The hen raised the little ones and they are living the life of a wild goose. And i would bet my last dollar that the three are all nest siblings. I have another addiction besides bass fishing and it involves birds

Most all geese are Canadian. But, a Canada goose and a Snow Goose cross would be very, very rare.

Most likely Smitty is correct. I've seen several, and have shot a couple that were mixed with farm geese. The "tuft" on the head is a giveaway.

John, you need two specific critters on your "farm" and all of those other pesty critters would no longer hang around. One is a flock of Guinea Hens and the other is two or three Llamas. Coyotes are scared to death of Llamas, and Llamas are very aggressive towards any other type of canine or cat. Guinea hens are a farm's alarm system!!

Thanks bama those are my lifes work, and yes they are gamecocks. And if you really wanted some fowl your best bet would be some spanish type gamefowl. They are very flighty and hardy and can evade predators when most other chickens will get eat, but for someone just wanting chickens to run around the spanish wouldnt be very economical because they can be VERY pricey. Those canadian hybrids are beautiful geese.

Umm...I'll beg to differ. I've been hunting these birds for 25 years, and have never encountered one myself, or have never heard of anyone shooting one.

I would like to though!
