I made one of these:
![]() I had a chance to go out a while back for a couple of hours in some seriously cold (for me) temperatures and this was the only thing I caught. The photo doesn’t show how nasty it really was. It was my last cast for the day and instead of making an underhand cast as I was going earlier, I felt I was “slick” and “expertly seasoned” enough to negotiate the back of this cast into a small opening in the bushes. It would be a piece of cake, right? I proceeded with the cast. Next, my jig got caught on the shrubbery behind me and although I realized it, my numb thumb was too frozen to react accordingly. The frrrrwhppp sound immediately followed and voila! I didn’t even bother trying to undo it because I knew it was not worth the effort. My last casts (I can’t end an outing on a bird’s nest) were made with the spinning rig on the way back to the car. If you have any, post your photos of some of the bird’s nests you have made.
