sorry to litter the board, but the joy of my bass catches lately has got me wanting to try some stuff, and i have a bit of money the monkey wants gone.. so i was gonna get some shakey stuff. so my first question is, doe the lead head/jig head have to be made for shakey head or will any work, 2nd.. whats the best worm, seen some youtube stuff with finese worm and trick worm, is there a better worm that is made for it..

Any type of jig will work but it has to be the right size. I prefer the Spot Remover Pro model 1/8oz. It has a flat head so the worm stands up and it has a spring for ur worm. For a worm, I have 2 options. Im either using a Robo worm of zoom trick worm. In winter months I may downsize to zoom finese worm but its rare. Berkley makes a shakey designed for shaky head fishing but Ive never tried it. Good luck!!!

Longtime lurker first time poster. I love the Shakey Head setup, use it often. I like the Strike King jigs and worms. The Strike King 3x 7 inch finesse worm seems to last quite a long time. I'm sure others can add more info. I'd also be curious as to other setups.

Wally, I like the shaky head technique, and it probably accounts for 1/4-1/3 of the fishing I do for bass. I am also a huge fan of the Spot Remover shaky head/hook in the Pro-Model, the one with a spring wire, not a screw post. I use a lot of different soft worms and creature style baits on it. Everything from power worms, senko worms and about any other worm, to craws, lizards and any manner of soft plastice, including some swimbaits!
I really like the flat head of the Spot Remover, I have purchased the 'generic' round shaky heads from Bass Pro and filed the heads flat with a mill file when I couldn't find the Spot Removers in stock in the size I wanted. I feel I can feel the bottom better, and they really get hung up LESS than the typical football shaped heads for me. With a craw type soft plastic, they really look tantalizing with the 'claws' flittering about up in the water while the head sits on the bottom--like a real craw will do sometimes.... I like twitching them along the bottom with a more vertical motion for craws, and more horizontal action for lizards, and a mix of both for worms... I'd recommend trying a pack or two of the Spot Remover in the size and weight you want, and some Yum Money Craws--have been a real producer for me! Good luck! PS, bank fishing will definitely stress your back--it's all I do anymore, except for on the bridges on the same lakes, and if I stay on the bridges, it's a lot easier on my back--plus I'm more of a 'user' than you--I usually start with 6 rigs heading out---DOH! yea, i feel the urge to hop in the car tonite and go and drive the 60 miles to BP, gander is only 45 mins. away but Bp is sooo mutch better
got the lazy monkey or the time saving monkey, wanting a few new setups so i dont have to change in between applications, already with wacky then shakey, on spinning. my nite topwater is a 33 platnium on a 6'6 lightning rod then for a lil bit of everything a quatnium tournament im 8 MH rod with a pinncle. i told the above to my gf. all she understood was spinning and 33 reel, lol she does think some of the lures are pretty though, lol |

I love fishing shakeyheads and they account for a large amount of bass I catch each year. I make my own shakeyheads to save on costs a little. I fish them on the 6' 8" version of this rod,
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/St_Cr...age-SCLTS.html with the 7.2 oz version of this reel http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Pflue...age-PPCRS.html I fill most of the spool with whatever cheap line I have laying around and then put 50-75 yards of this line on for mainline in 8lb test http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Seagu...cpage-SIF.html Then I tip one of my homemade shakeyheads with one of these http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Zoom_...html#multiview or one of the 4" versions of these http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Yum_F...html#multiview Now you don't have to have anything quite that expensive to fish them on but it doesn't hurt anything! |
