				 | probably buying my dream boat tomorrow

as many of u guys know all ive been using is a 12 ft jon boat with a trolling motor all last year. i bought a 16 ft jon boat with a 40 hp on it that i started fixing up but havent got it dun. over the weekend i happened to drive by my banks repo lot. theres a 93 stratos 201 xl pro with a 225hp v6 johnson. also has a hot foot, aftermarket jack plate, gator mount and foot controlled trolling motor. boat has been winterized and looks well taken care of. not to mention its on a really nice stratos dual axle trailer with nice aluminum wheels. the bank is asking 2400.. yes as in 24 hundred!! im going to c about gettin a $3000 loan tomorrow and with my income tax that'll buy the boat and a humminbird 1198 if all goes well ill b hittin up tournaments this year! anyone know of any problems with this model boat? it is mint condition.. i wouldve guessed it no more than 5 years old. i almost didnt call bc i didnt figure i can afford it but im so glad i did |

Sound like a great deal "O". Stratos is a great ride and as for the price, you made a great deal there. I would say you saved 4 or 5 grand on this deal. Heck, that 225 is worth $2,500. Even if you put a few dollars in it , your still way ahead. Have fun! Post some pics. |

It sounds like a great deal, just be carefull. I would see if you could get a mechanic to look at the motor and do a compression check. Hopefully he/she can even look around on the inside of the boat. Check the transom and make sure everything is okay. Nothing would be worse then having a fish finder worth more then your boat with a blown motor.

Banks can be funny, its all thats owed on it most likly, yet never seem to protect their investment once its in their hands like turn the heat off to a house, leave a boat uncovered on the lot etc. Some poor guy may have lost his job and just couldnt afford,or possibly passed and relatives dont desire to pay it off.I bought a Ranger once that way.Retail is 7-9 grand,5-6 between people, in ex shape, deduct for not quite so good a shape etc, lack of other eq like depth finders, the 201 is a decent rough water boat and a smooth ride, the pro version is wide and stable. That boat while cheaper than some brands is a decent one that cost about 42 k new,in 03 But if not a friendly repo then possibly sabotage like as in gas,so id drain any in it. As for the price thats about wholesale.Good luck and enjoy your ride. Last edited by lilmule; 01-26-12 at 09:57 AM. |

yeah i saw that average retail is like 2300 or something but thats no motor, no trailer and no options. its got 2 fish finders, a foot controlled trolling motor, a hot foot, after market jack plate... its been well taken care of

That would be the wholesale price, retail three times that at any dealership. Blue book prices never include the motor its considered as no or lil value, something generally included. And yes many have been repowered or rebuilt so does effect between people just not in blue book value. So many bluebooks kellys would give the more realistic value, bluebook value is what insurance companies use to pay off claims, and that would be about 2400 if totaled, not enough to buy the motor let alone another bass boat.So not worth full coverage. That 201 if it were say an 07 be worth 20 G.Providing everything checks out you got a real deal.Used the trailer and motor are worth that. McGuires restorer polish will bring back out the gleam then reseal . For that kind of money had you posted a location doubt if it would be there when you went back.
