Default My first bass carving...

I still need some work on the detail. The scales I tried to do made him look like a fury bass, but all and all I think it's fair for a first effort.

Thank ya much.
The basic outline and shape was a stencil, the detail is my freehand work going by the pic. Haven't made up my mind yet whether to just stain it, burn some detail, maybe a coat of paint just to get the colors and shading on it under the stain and polyurethane.

Nice!
Not sure but I think I caught you working on it on a blog a friend mine does.
I'm torn on the finishing touches. Color on the lure may really be a neat touch. Maybe lure and splash of water in color.
Saw your new post while typing this one.
What do you think about burning in the lateral line and maybe a real thin burn on the shadow side of scale.
Mess around, you can always paint in the end.
Better yet do two.
So you have it perfected when I put MY order in.
Again if it's the same one I saw in the backdrop (different blog I think?) , I think last one, that looked nice but now I don't remember a fish in that one?

I should also add that all these ideas are coming from a person with absolutly NO artistc talent what so ever. Just a member of the buying public.

Donald, that looks awsome buddy!!! It looks like something one woould by at BPS. Can you play with an image of it in photoshop to see what various finishes would look like? I'm sure whatever you do with it, it will look great.

Thank ya bassboss. Was thinking about paint, but kinda want to keep the wood look, so I'm trying different shades of stain.

Dang stick that's a good looking piece! What'd you use? 1x6 pressure treated? I don't know how much time you've got in that but I think you could easily sell them for $20-30 + S&H

Thank ya.
Yup, my bro in law had some 1x6 pieces left from his deck. I grabbed a piece of that. Now that I kinda got an idea of how to do it, I reckon I ought to do one just to see how long it actually does take. That one I just sorta messed with here and there over the past couple days.
