Default shad rap bluegill

Every year my wife Pam manages to catch several eater size gills while tossing cb's for bass. Here's the first one this year 3/1/12 on her first trip out with me. We managed to catch 23 bass as well but nothing pic worthy..mostly 12-16" males....water temp @ 60 and rising!

Thats a nice plate sized slad of bluegill man! Judging by her smile, I think she is ready to fire up the skillet! Bluegill bust have a thing for Shadraps. I've caught a couple on those myself, the perch colored version.

That's a big 'ol bluegill alright! That would be a blast to get into a school of those with an ultralight!

Thanks..and your right..every year in April we hit this pond with 4lb gear and 1/16 beetlespins during the spawn and just catch giant brim like this and bigger until our arms are sore and we're wearing those silly perma-grins. My absolute favorite though is rigging up a couple of those 12' telescoping graphite (cane poles) with a cricket and small cork and working the deep water out away from the beds......that's rockin it Old School!
