Skunk free!!
The Major called yesterday to ask if I wanted to fish. I said sure but needed to check work schedule. Turns out that I need to be in at 11am.....Sucks but I need the work! So we plan to meet this morning early at Quantico and launch from there. Only gave me a couple hours on the water but I'll take what I can get.
We launch and make a short run to a point. No current equals no fish. High tide...where next? We run into creek to a spring time bank with wood that holds fish. Muddy water, no tide, no fish. On to the next location. The Major hooks up with a dink on a crankbait and it's his first river fish of the year. I break out the Potomac Punisher and it's game on!!! I put a couple quality fish and a few shorties in the boat along the same bank. The Major makes a switch since he's not getting any love on the crankbait or trap. We finish the bank and run to see what's up with the pads in the back. Not much happening and I shake off a shorty on a Hardcore. Time to move since I'm running out of time. We hit another bank with scattered wood with no success and the Major picks up the trolling motor....sure enough the best bass of the morning sucks in the Punisher. Trolling motor goes back down and we continue but no luck. Time's up I've got to go. The Major drops me off to go searching for grass in another creek. Not too bad for a little over two hours of fishing 7 bass with best being in 3 lb range. Winter skunk is out of the boat. Pics will be posted shortly....... |

Congrats on getting out and catching some nice quality bass. Pretty darn good for just two hours. What kind of trailer are you using on the bladed jig?

It's a 3.5" custom pour from R&R Custom Baits. Robert did a triple pour for me a couple years ago and that's one of the last I have. Had one tail pulled off today . Snakehead probably. Robert makes custom swim baits for striper fishermen and I asked if he could do one that matched my custom skirts. He doesn't do triple's anymore, too expensive and time consuming, but he's now equipped to do double's and it's brought the cost down quite a bit. I recommend the smoke w/silver and black with white belly. Let me know if you want some. He can pretty much do any color you want. Bama - Can't wait to see what you catch using the "new" combo. Looking forward to getting the delivery this week. Last edited by 3dkicker; 03-25-12 at 06:15 PM. |

Nice haul! I have gots to try a chatter bait one day! I am finally working a swim jig in so I am heading in that direction.
Smitty, I finally got a YZ SD version of the Ghost. Found it on Ebay the other day and went balls to the wall. There was going to be no sniping that day.

It's rare that he uses plastics so I think he may need all the help that he can get. For some reason he doesn't like plastics but he did catch a 7.4 last week on a Senko. All the rods on the deck are his and I think one has a jig and another has a drop shot.....rest are crankbait class baits. |

Sweet. Donnie painted the two that I have in the Ayu but I haven't picked them up yet. Send me a pic of the Ayu and Ghost if you can. The more patterns/colors I can get Donnie (fishnart) the better his stuff gets..... |
