Smile Biggest bass of my fishing life!

This was the biggest bass i had ever caught in my entire fishing experience, (which is about 4 months lol) So as you can imagine, i was very excited. I caught it out of the pond in my neighborhood which is very small, and only gets to be about 4 feet deep. Surprisingly, this pond has produced the biggest bass and crappie out of every other Huge lake my friends and I have ever fished. It was about 6:45 pm, and the sun was setting. I was throwing a KVD shallow driving square bill crank bait in about 2 ft of water. I was fishing with my buddy who was across the pond on the other side, and i yelled to him, "Hey stevie, did you know that i have never caught a bass on a crankbait before?"(which was true)....And he replied, "Its because you dont know how to fish it."......Then all of a sudden, I got a supposed snag, i started yanking on it and it didnt budge, then it darted out and that was when i realized it was a fish. Funny thing was the fish initially just sat on the bottom like a dead weight. I think he was sitting on his bed, and then just inhaled it lol. It was an amazing fight. Later on, I ended up breaking the bill off of the shallow diving crank bait when i tripped over a branch in flip flops, but i decided to still use it any way. About 5 minutes into fishing the crankbait with no bill, i caught a healthy, much smaller bass. The big bass ended up weighing in at 4 11", and the small one, well it didn't read on the scale lol. But over all, a great day resulted in great fish, and one jealous friend. Now i am more confident in the crank bait since I have caught fish on it.

Congrats! Great timing by shutting your friend up for saying you don't know how to fish with a crankbait. LOL

Well your first mistake is not smiling, one of the few times I have a natural smile in pictures is when I'm holding up a big fish. And you need to hold that fish out a little more, makes em look a little bigger I'm told

Good fish though, sounds like a great pond for a rattle-trap. And glad to see another kid fishin, good luck ever stopping now.

Shout out to Cavs. Havn't seen you in here much. Miss ya buddy! Sorry about the slight take over of your post LittleBigBass. Had to do it man. The guys have it right on the grip for pics though. Hold it way out in front and make it HUGE!!! That what we all do!!! bwahahahaha And leave the scale at home. Verification of weight is wayyyy over rated. haha

I would definitely agree on the wacky rig! It's so simple, yet so effective, especially when you're not getting bit on anything else. I caught the biggest fish of my life on the wacky rig, as well as a couple 5's that same day!

I do not use the normal wacky rig of a senko and a octopus hook. I use a smallish 1/0 true turn hook and a creme floating worm. Split shot till it falls just right about 4 inches before the hook. I like flipping with a spinning rod to undercut banks, laydowns and docks.

Wacky worm, 2/0 hook with a zoom finesse or trick worm, or centipede. Throw out and let sink, usually the first sink is the killer, pay attention to your line as they will take off and you won't feel them.
Amazing bait, really under fished, even by me, but not by my brother.

Good story & nice fish. Crankbaits can be a barrel of fun to use. the bill-less crankbait will catch a lot of fish especially in shallow water. Get you another with a bill and you will have two baits which will serve you well in that pond.

I really like to work it close to the banks, when the spawn is going on. You have all the big females on beds up near the bank, and the bass just tear it up!

I just cast it out about 20ft, let it sink to the bottom, and like aiken said, be sure to watch the line! Often times it will just start taking off, and you can't really feel it. Most of you're bites will come on the fall, so be ready! I just started fishing this technique a couple years ago, and I was extremely surprised at the fish it will catch. I have used Zoom Finesse and Yum Dingers, and I like both of them. Really, just practice and you'll get the hang of it!
