We had a "derecho"
We had a derecho Friday night. Winds over 90 mph, alot of damage, down trees and such. We are among the LUCKY ones. We didn't lose power and just had a lot of clean up. My sister lives 2 miles away had some damage and won't have power till next weekend. Heres a few pictures of my property. I got mine mostly cleaned up today.

That was really something! Here in NW Indiana, I was watching it develope west of Chicago on the radar. That hit with gusto for sure. Can't remember a storm like that in a long long time. It's been years. Here we were going through a rather bad drought and then 3 storms in a couple days. Had another one hit today with large hail and very strong winds. Weird weather. Glad you didnt loose power and no one was hurt!

Glad to hear nothing serious Ron. Clean up isn't so bad if REPAIRS are not required afterwards.

One thing that he failed to mention is that we were all standing on the front deck when derecho hit. It was actually pretty cool at first, until you start getting smacked in the face by broken branches. Then you get your rear inside ASAP.

It was strange that it did a lot of damage in some parts of VA and in others not so much. No damage at all in my neighborhood but downtown Fredericksburg, 6-8 miles away, got chewed up. I have video of the storm, mostly lightning, but you can't see the 60+ mph winds real well. Some people still without power today and others may not get theirs back, like the Major, until this weekend.
The storm on Sat chewed up areas just south of me and they had tornado warnings. My club had to get off the water near Williamsburg due to the storm/tornado warnings. Then Sunday/Monday another storm rolled through. It woke me up at 3AM with thunder/lightning and hail. Again no damage at my place. I guess I'm doing something right or I've been very lucky. Here's one limb that came down in the city..... Last edited by 3dkicker; 07-03-12 at 03:11 PM. |

In the arm pit of MD's southern country we had a lot of wind and a few small branches come down. Bowie got hammered and today 5 days later there power is back on.
A lot of talk about buried power lines for the burb's may effect some changes. Capt Mike

80 MPH winds about 30 minutes NE of Capt. Mike. Power out from Friday night til early Monday morning. Slept in puddles of my own sweat for three nights. Lost a huge tree.

Lucky that cleanup was the only cost - mother nature can be a real 'something' when she gets her attitude fired up...and we just 'weather the storm'.
Glad in this case, no one was hurt...others may not have been as lucky.
