I missed more fish and lost more hooks than I'd like to talk about using the palomar with monofilament, so I went back to the improved clinch. Would set the hook and come back up with a clean cut piece of line, right at the knot. Do the palomar with success on braid though

Daniel, the last time I saw you, your shoes had VELCRO closures.

Palomar for almost all terminal connecitons. Uni/Uni for line to line connections. I sometimes tie an improved clinch on jigs. That's about it.

I use two more than others - the palomar and improved clinch knot. For joining lines, Albright and double uni.

This would be interesting to see as a poll.

I added an extra loop to a Triline knot, making it sort of a cross between a Triline and a Jansik Special. I use that all the time for terminal, and Uni to Uni for joining lines.

Palomar & whatever a backlash knot is. Once I figure it out I'll let ya know. They HAVE to be the strongest.

No, no, no, no....the Velcro held my HELMET on. I'm still missing some of my Crayons from the last time I fell, too....

Ok, serious answer: I use the improved clinch knot for most of my terminal connections. The only exception is for braid, which I use the Palomar knot. I don't do leaders very often, but when I do, I use the Albright.

I use the palomar for prety much every single terminal tackle application be it with braid, mono, or flurocarbon. The KEY thing to the palomar is LOTS AND LOTS of lubrication, especially with mono and fluro as friction is heat and heat breaks down the line. A properly lubricated palomar knot is pretty unbeatable when it comes to strength as well as ease of tying.

I want my terminal tackle knot to loop through the line tie twice. The Palomar and Trilene knots both accomplish this... the improved Clinch knot does not. My experience has convinced me the Palomar and/or Trilene knots are stronger than an improved Clinch knot.

Palomar for braid & Improved Clinch Knot for mono and fluoro. But I’ll also use the Palomar for heavier mono and fluoro as well from time to time. For joining lines together? It's an adventure every time. I don't know if I'm doing a uni knot, blood knot, Siamese knot, etc. It’s a lot of praying and twisting. But I don’t really join the lines for application purposes. It’s mainly for backing braid with mono when spooling or when the line is low on the spool and I want to spool on a different line.

For mono, I still use the old clinch knot. Its what my father taught me and it works fine, I lose very little fish, possibly because if I'm using mono, I go pretty heavy anyway.

For braid, I use a palomar.

I use a palomar knot for pretty much everything except poppers. When tying a popper dirrectly to the line I use an improved clinch knot. I never use a leader. but when tying two lines together I still use the blood knot. I can never remember how to tie a Uni knot, lol.

Lately I've been using the Alberto for most line to line. The Uni-to-Uni (or Double Uni) is my go to for light braid and light leader (10-15lb braid to 4-8lb FC) as I've found the Alberto doesn't hold too well on these very thin lines.

For everything else, I've really been liking a modified version of the Uni Knot where you double the line around the hook eye then make 4-5 loops around the line for FC/Nylon mono and 8-10 for braid. With FC, I get a lot less badly tied knots (twisted up line right above the knot) compared to the Improved Clinch of Miller Knots. I also waste a lot less line with braid compared to the Palomar.
