Default Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report From Guide Jim Rea

Well, the heat is really on as I write this. Our first 100 degree day is today and more to come. This looks like 1998 or 1999 where we had many 100 degree days and no rain. This is only June and our hottest weather is yet to come. MERCY! The water temp has come way up. 85 to 89 and that is according to where you are at on the lake. The Shallow fish are biting well in and around the grass. Weightless Wave Tiki Sticks, Flukes, Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worms and ZigZags, and Trick worms all fished wacky have been good. Work the baits slowly with hops on slack line. The spinner bait, lipless crank bait, and top water have been good very early but the top water ends soon as the sun gets up. Keep a lipless crank bait tied on as there is some schooling going on. The deep fish have started showing up in some areas but they are moving around on most spots. Just sit still and they will come back in a while. Texas and Carolina rigs have been good choices for the deep fish. Some days the swim baits will catch the fish. Don’t forget the Drop Shot. Sometimes the fish will get up off the bottom and the drop shot will save the day. The Wave Tiki Drop and Baby Tiki stick on the drop shot is a good combination. I have started out with and 18 inch drop between the hook and the weight. Don’t be afraid to try lighter line as this will get you a few more bites.
The crappie are starting to get bigger around the bridges and the shade is welcome. The timber still has fish out in the twenty five foot about 16 to 18 down. Small jigs and minnows are the bait of choice. Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluid, wear light colored clothing, and put on plenty of sun screen. Wear something you can get into the water to cool off with and when you get out and start your boat the run will cool you off. Don’t jump into the water where you are not sure of because of the under water stumps and hazards.
I still have some June Dates open if you want to book a trip give me a call.
