dropshot real sizes

I personally like a 2000 sized spinning reel for all my finesse fishing needs!

In bass fishing, when do you really need more, especially if you spool with braid. I'll actually use smaller if I can. I'm using a Daiwa Fuego 1500 with 7lb Sunline FC Sniper right now. Used to use a little AG Cardinal 301 with 10lb braid.

I'm a spinning reel guy - I currently don't even own a baitcaster. (I probably just lost respect points from most of the forum readers) I use spiing gear for everything: frogs, flipping jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, weightless senkos, etc.

I have several 2000 and 2500 spinning reels and they work good. I don't like the big spinning reels but don't want an ultra-light either. I usally look at the reel weight and pick something close to 10 ounces. (Though typically as you go up in price, expensive reels weigh less than comparable sized cheap ones.)

FIRST, I would pick the rod for the technique you want to fish and THEN find a reel that is balanced with that rod. For drop-shotting I would want a 7'-0" medium or medium-light spinning rod. I'd probably use the 2000 size for a med-light rod and a 2500 for a medium rod.

A 2500 size has always worked for me. Not too big or too small. I do know a lot of pros use a 4000 size but I prefer the smaller reel size.
