A small town in Mississippi was having a problem with birds being killed on the highway. Dozens and dozens of crows, in particular, were being hit while scavenging roadkill. So many dead birds is obviously a health and safety concern, so the city council commissioned Mississippi State University to do a study to determine the problem.
The first thing they discovered was that of all the crows that were killed on that stretch of highway, only 2% were being hit by cars, while 98% were hit by trucks. They thought that was extremely strange, so they did a little more investigation.
First, they found out that crows are fairly intelligent. When a crow is down on the road scavenging, it always designates a lookout crow to sit in a tree close by, to warn it of when a vehicle is coming.
Secondly, they discovered that while every crow could say "Cah!", apparently none of them were able to say "Truck!"
