Chartreuse lures...

What lures AND in what fishing situations do you have faith using a yellow or chartreuse color?

I've gotten to where I like baits with a bit of chart all the time. Bluegill are one of our main forage fish here and they all have chart on them somewhere.

The other benefit is most of our water is stained, so chartreuse shows up really well. So to answer your question, there really isn't a time I wont use a bait with some chartreuse in it. The amount usually depends on water clarity, the clearer the water, the less I want.

Chartreuse seems to work in a variety of water clarities. Color selection is more art than science and there is arbitrariness involved.

When I want my reaction baits like spinnerbaits/buzzbaits/cranks/jerkbaits to "stand out in a crowd". This time of the year when the water (especially the shallow) is flush with food and my old match the hatch habits just aren't cutting it......chartreuse is good whether the water is gin clear or muddy.

For senkos and power worms in any water clarity I use chartreuse tails. It's also my favorite buzz bait skirt color.

I like the black power worms with the chartreuse tails, especially for deep or murky water. Last fall a chartreuse money frog easily out-fished all my typical favorite colored frogs ...including Spro frogs, Horny Toads and Ribbits; in all sorts of colors EXCEPT chartreuse. (I didn't have any frogs that were chartreuse other than the money frogs.) The funny thing is I discovered this only because my dad picked up a couple packages in a bargin bin!

I use yellow/chartreuse by itself and in combination with shades of pearl in clear water when the bait will be worked high in the water column and silhouetted by bright skies. When I want a little more visibility... but not too much more. Spinnerbait skirts, walking topwaters, suspending jerkbaits, soft plastic jerkbaits and small boot-tail grubs.

Dark and deep water I prefer using orange to accent dark brown/olive or black baits. What are forum member's thoughts on when (if at all) to use orange?

Like I said, I use baits with varying degrees of chartreuse all the time. I very rarely use baits (besides jigs) with orange though. I know here in TX, orange and red are huge staples for hardbaits. I just don't throw them much at all. I probably should try to work them in more, I know they work.

Exactly this. When bass are feeding heavy on bluegills in the weeds I have not found a better fish getter than a Havoc Pit boss in the lime-purple passion color with the tail dipped in some chartreuse JJ's magic. Anyone that's watched a juvenile bluegill in the water knows the tip of their tail is almost chartreuse and the greenish/purplish colored body of the bait makes the thing a great imitation.

My favorite is dipping 2 of the tails on a Okeechobee Craw Pit Boss. It's enough Chartreuse to see but not be too overpowering. I'll have to try it with the lime/purple color too.

Just about anytime I fish for smallies...clear or stained water doesn't matter. Almost all my smallie lures have some sort of chartreuse in them.

Smaller (1/4 or 1/8 oz) spinnerbaits in all Chart. seem to work well in or over the grass on the Potomac during the dog days of summer. I have also seen Chart. grubs and crankbaits will work in November on the river too. Not sure why......
